It's not easy being in business for yourself; not only do you have to be good at making the product or service that you offer, but you also need to excel at business in order to stay in business.

In our capitalistic society, we need money to put food on the table and clothe our children. If you are in business and have a problem getting your head around price, and asking for money, you will suffer just like any other farmer whose crop has failed.

Statistics on the failure rate of new business ventures are not kind -- and remarks about `enjoying the journey', and disappointment being all 'part of life's varied tapestry' do little to ease the stress and discomfort of going slowly broke not earning enough money. As one wit so wisely said, `Sometimes the journey of a thousand miles ends very, very badly'.

Motivational books may offer some help to bolster enthusiasm but if you intend to do well in business you need solid business advice on how to set your price and how to manage your customers. In this practical guide you will be shown how to decide your value, what to consider when setting your price, how to handle the client who quibbles over the bill and what to say to the client that objects to your price.

My heart goes out to those who have gone into business, doing what they love, only to find themselves struggling to make a dollar - this book is a genuine attempt to help.

A Great Book For The Self-Employed5
This book offers concise, helpful information particularly useful to anyone who is sef-employed. Here is a guide that is practical, with a simple yet effective question-answer format...and it is a relatively short book (which is a definite plus for those of us who don't have much time on our hands). I do not regret making this purchase and have actually gone so far as to purchase a copy of this book for a friend as well.

The lessons in this book can be applied to anyone who feels they don't quite get the respect they deserve. It digs into why you do what you -- and not just things you might not think of as being a problem, but also things you might not think of as being advantageous. As they say with kids and dogs, reward good behavior rather than just punishing bad. The book doesn't beat you about the head and set impossible goals -- something that always turns me off any self help book. And aside from all that, it's very easy to read.
