Kyuzo Mifune (1883-1965) began Judo as a child, and in 1920 was awarded the highest possible rank of 10th dan - the only man ever to reach this height. Called the "god of judo", he was so famous that '10th-Dan' replaced his name! Legend has it that in his sixty years of practice he never lost a match and was never thrown. This book is a totally revised edition. The original was published in 1960, and played a big role in founding the International Judo Association, and in helping judo to become an Olympic sport in 1964. Shortly before his death Mifune revised his work. This new edition includes the revisions as well as corrections.

Customer Reviews
Great blast from the past.
The original version of this book was bound in a judogi. For the rest of us who arent lucky enough to have one of those then this will more than do.Contains the usual collection of throw demonstration type pages but includes counters not often seen & some now illegal techniques.
If you are into judo, brazilian jiu jitsu etc then buy this as it contains techniques that the current crop of bjj, judo books have and some they dont. Not bad as this was first published in 1956.
EXCELLENT¡
I am not a judo man, just an aikidoist (shodokan style), but I find the book excellent: clear, deep, very good explanations,... I've got a judo books collection of 15 titles and I find this definitevily the best. I full recommend it. Mifune -on his 70's- is simple admirable¡ Enjoy it.
