Customer Reviews
you should definitely buy this book
You should definitely buy this book..even if you are not "stressed" as it is far more than that and therefore *accurately* sub-titled "A comprehensive guide to your well-being" .
It takes a very thorough logical approach to a) what stress is and b) how to deal with it - so that you feel good even when things get tricky in life !
It identifies what causes stress and how this differs among people - as identifying what is creating your stress is obviously necessary in order to tackle it.
You may think you know what your stress is already - may be you hate your job - but the relevant chapter makes sure you are not ignoring other key things you need to deal with, like chemical stressors (eg caffeine) and family stressors, and there's a list of others !
Ok, so you let's say you read that bit and now you know why you're stressed...but how do you deal with it ?
Well, this is where this books *really* comes into it's own. It takes you through all the things you can do to get control over it - using Physical techniques (relaxation) Mind and Attitude techniques, examining your Personality and your Verbal approach as well as Change management ideas.
Each of these areas is given a concise yet effective explanation and in some cases quite detailed. There are specific exercises on many of of these areas with fill in charts and the book doesn't finish there...
There's a whole section on Communication - assertiveness vs agressiveness.
Then there's even more on Keeping Healthy physically , Losing Weight/Controlling your weight, and a final chapter pulling it all together.
This book is not in "wooly airfairy" language - it gives *specific* advice and explanations - even though dealing with a subject which might sometimes seem impossible to pin down.
This means you can actually get on with doing things about your stress instead of worrying about it.
Added to this there is even a good bibliography so you can read on further if you want to get more details on the ideas in the book.
I found this book on a friend's shelf and i am glad I borrowed it. If you can get hold of it now, then you will NOT be disappointed.
Amazing value too at the price I just saw here (it's over 300 pages of solid useful advice).
Very good comprehensive book about stress management
The book covers many areas that are related to stress and how to manage it. It is well written with examples. Strongly recommended.
