Classical music has been scientifically proven to encourage cognitive development in young children. Baby Beethoven, a 29-minute Baby Einstein production, presents excerpts from five of the composer's most famous symphonies--as well as incidental music--in a child-friendly, sensory-rich format. Familiar Beethoven themes like the "Ode to Joy" from his Ninth Symphony are playfully rendered on electric piano and accompanied by colorful images of toys in action, puppetry, and babies at play. The musical excerpts are relatively short and the imagery is quick-paced and varied enough to grab the limited attention span of viewers age 1 to 36 months. Unlike previous Baby Einstein presentations, each symphonic excerpt (though not the incidental music) is labelled--a feature that encourages further exploration of favorite pieces. Baby Beethoven is an aural and visual feast that promotes creativity, mental awareness and an appreciation for classical music in infants, toddlers, and their parents. --Tami Horiuchi

Synopsis
Created by mother and teacher Julie Aigner-Clark, BABY BEETHOVEN is an introduction to Beethoven's beautiful music and operates on the same premise as BABY MOZART: that great classical music has positive effects on people of all ages, especially babies. Images of brightly coloured toys and known objects aid in the audio presentation of child-friendly arrangements and sound effects. Designed for infants between the ages of approximately one and 36 months.

brilliant!5
This DVD is brilliant!

the never ending changing of toys, characters, children, babies, lights on the screen keep my 10 month old son mesmorised! He loves dogs and squeels himself silly when he sees the dog puppet on the screen!

great for bunging on the TV when you want an extra 20 mins in bed, and is hopefully doing his brain a bit more good than the songs on the tweenies!

Worth a look for tiny babies!5
My little baby boy loved the bright images in this from a very young age (about 4 weeks old). I wouldn't think it is for the older baby though, he likes it as background sound now (14 months) as he is used to the tunes and even says ba ba ba ba when one of Beethoven's symphonies begins but he doesn't pay much attention to the images any more. He used to watch it all the way through, laying on the bed each morning. It gave me the chance to get a wash and do my hair!

Captivating for Babies4
This is another excellent video from Baby Einstein. My 10 month old son adores Baby Mozart, and took a couple of days to be as interested in this one, being new and unfamiliar. It is more structured than Baby Mozart, but otherwise very similar. Now he loves it, especially, once again, the puppet show parts. I can't recommend these videos highly enough. I'm about to buy some of the others as they have been such a success for us.

One word of warning; none of these videos is particularly appealing to an adult mind so don't be put off until you have seen how your baby reacts. Every baby we know who has watched one of our videos is captivated.
