Incredibly soothing

I bought this for my 20 month old daughter when she was born, and we still use it now. The lightshow is calming and the music is soft, it seemed to work wonders on helping my baby get off to sleep from an early age. The lightshow and music come on automatically when baby cries and soothes her back to sleep, turning itself off after 5 minutes or so and you can adjust how sensitive it is to baby's sounds. Also you can choose between no music, lullaby music, or ocean sounds (like sea waves), and the option to turn the lightshow on with the music or off. The baby monitor itself has two clear channels and lights up when noise is detected, and never let us down.

Now we use it instead of a nightlight because it auto switches off and my daughter gets frightened of the dark, and it is just as effective now as it was at birth when it comes to calming her to sleep. I'm never going to part with it - just hearing the ocean sounds or the lullaby music brings back memories!

Don't waste your money
We bought this item for our newborn daughter (now nine weeks old). It seemed good to start, but then after a short while, the projector stopped turning unless you fiddled about with (or downright bashed) the unit. The bulb has now blown (at around five weeks) and we won't be replacing it, since we're not impressed. The sea sounds are okay, but don't sound anything like the sea, more like white noise. The music is pretty rubbish, some of it sounds like the soundtrack to 80's kid's science shows, not very condusive for sleep, but good if you want to learn about bunsen burners.

In short, buy a decent monitor, don't buy this.

Feeble
We bought this for our new born baby and within 2 weeks the projector stopped working.
The "Sound FX" are rubbish - it's meant to be the relaxing sound of the sea and really it sounds like a de-tuned radio.
To top it off, the Smart Response is proper-dodgy... it doesn't turn on when the baby crys but it does when I sneeze! The net result of this is that it doesn't calm her down when she's grumpy, but it does wake her up when I'm sneezy...
