Amazon.co.uk Review
Before Kevin Smith became a Hollywood darling with Chasing Amy, a film he wrote and directed, he made this $27,000 comedy about real-life experiences working for chump change at a New Jersey convenience store. A rude, foul-mouthed collection of anecdotes about the responsibilities that go with being on the wrong side of the till, the film is also a relationship story that takes some hilarious turns once the lovers start revealing their sexual histories to one another. In the best tradition of first-time, ultra-low budget independent films, Smith uses Clerks as an audition piece, demonstrating that he not only can handle two-character comedy but also has an eye for action--as proven in a smoothly handled rooftop hockey scene. Smith himself appears as a silent figure who hangs out on the fringes of the store's property. --Tom Keogh
Synopsis
Chronicling a day in the life of Quick Stop clerk Dante Hicks, CLERKS captures the hilarity of the humdrum even as it raises slackerdom to existential proportions. From behind his counter, Dante desperately tries to exert some power over the crazy customers, his own love life, and his incorrigible friend and fellow clerk Randal--the type who sees nothing wrong in closing the video shop he works in to go rent movies from a better store.

my favourite movie
very different to anything else smith has come up with, in my mind much better, this is a film with heart, witty dialogue and relatable characters. i don't know why i love this film so much. needs two watches at least. better every time.
dun dun dun dun.........salsa shark!
the subtle sick humour of this film will really appeal to you if you like watching a day in the life of the dregs of american society selling packets of cigerettes to four year olds and pushing over caskets at funerals. No really, its good.luckily the dubious jay and silent bob duo dont feature hugely in this film despite the fact that one of them wrote and directed it...the main charecter of the film being the annoying pushover,Dante, and his wisecracking co worker,Randal. The latter providing the comic relief when the boring Dante becomes too much to bear...
This film could be described as overrated, but i disagree, its not very often that a super low budget (kevin smith sold his car to make it) film is released and grasps the sick sad comical reality of working in video store/supermarket,where old men ask for softer toiletpaper because their haemorroids are acting up...but i wont reveal all..and guidence councellors look for 'the perfect dozen'..filled with plenty of sexual innuendos....37!....you probably wont see a film quite like it for awhile.
"I'm not even supposed to be here today"
This is my favourite movie of all time. It's in black and white and there is no real plot at all, just two guys working at a convience store and a video store, but it is great. I don't know what else to say except for get it now.
