Amazon.co.uk Review
In the first season of The X Files, creator Chris Carter was uncertain of the series' future, so each of the episodes is a self-contained suspense story; they do not delve deep into the ongoing X Files mythology or turn to self-parody and humour as do episodes in later seasons. Yet, these episodes display the elements for which the show would become famous: the cinematic production values and top-notch special effects, the stark lighting of the Vancouver sets, the atmospheric halo of Mark Snow's score, and the clever plots dealing with subjects ranging from the occult, religion, and monsters to urban legends, conspiracy theories and science fiction. Most importantly, Season 1 introduces FBI agents Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) and Fox "Spooky" Mulder (David Duchovny), two of the most attractive government officials around. Scully is the serious-minded medical scientist assigned to join Mulder on the X Files, a division of the FBI dealing with the paranormal. Mulder is the intuitive thinker with a dry wit, a passionate believer in the existence of paranormal phenomena and one of the few characters on television smart enough to figure out who the bad guy is before the audience does. Their muddled relationship, a deep friendship laced with sexual tension, provides the human heart in a world where the bizarre and horrible lurk in everyday society.

The materials on the bonus disc provide some interesting trivia and background, but it is the 24 episodes themselves that make this seven-disc boxed set a true find. Those unfamiliar with The X Files often view all the fuss with the same scepticism with which Scully first regards her new partner's ideas. But just as she comes to realise the uncanny accuracy of Mulder's outlandish theories, newcomers to The X Files who sample a few episodes in this boxed set will likely find themselves riveted to their television late into the night. And undoubtedly, the shadows and creaking noises in the house that evening will seem more menacing than usual. --Eugene Wei

science fiction at its best5
when this first aired on BBC 2 I was hooked from the start ,I absolutely loved it . Aliens and creepy monsters have always got my full attention so this was perfectfor me just loved it .

The X-Files - Season 1 5
-No Spoilers-

I was too young when the first season of the X-Files came out! So I never watched it! I decided to watch all of the seasons X-Files due to the release of the new X-Files: I Want To Believe movie which re-sparked my interest in the show!

I've seen a few random episodes on TV but they where from different seasons and I only watch when it was on! But I'm pleased I started watching if from the beginning and now I'm totally addicted!

I can't express how much I love this show - even though it is a bit dated now I can't believe how ahead of the times this show was! Being a fan of science-fiction I've watched and watch a lot of sci-fi TV shows and I've realise watching the X-Files how many shows have ripped-off The X-Files! Lost, The 4400, Angel, Supernatural - too name a few!

If you don't know what The X-Files is about (which I'm sure you do)- Is about 2 FBI Agents - Fox Mulder & Dana Scully who investigate cases of the paranormal and the unexplained!

Watching this show it is easy to see why this was a culture favourite! The 2 leads Mulder and Scully probably have the best chemistry that 2 actors can have on a TV series! Each episode is addictive and brilliant!

The show is in 2 formats stand-alone episodes and mythology episodes that link together which are mostly dealing with alien adductions and government conspiracies!!

The characters are brilliantly portrayed by the actors - Fox Mulder the believer is a loveable geek and is nick-name "Spooky Mulder" by the rest of the FBI! Has great one-liners and is very witty! Dana Scully is the skeptic who believes there must be a logical reason in each of the cases - And together they are just as brilliant as each other!

To be honest I always thought that The X-Files is a geeky show well if it is I'm pleased to be a geek! Seriously don't be put of that the fact it is a sci-fi show as it is really one of the best TV Shows ever made and the best thing about it! It lasted 9 seasons! And it really isn't as geeky as it is portrayed!

I love each episode in this series especially the mythology episodes and love how the creators have made the people they work for the FBI/Government conspire against them!

I also like how each case has a different ending some left unexplained and some you can make your own mind so you can choose to be the believer or the skeptic! This is a very intelligent show and writers are very clever! The scripts are brilliantly written!

The show also mixes in sexual tension between the two characters which I liked and it makes them even more loveable! And you're always rooting for them to find the truth in whatever the case!

If you're a fan of science-fiction or fantasy this is a must-watch as it cover everything from werewolves, cloning, aliens it has something for every fan of sci-fi! If you are not a fan of sci-fi I believe this show could seriously turn you as it is not just a sci-fi show! If you like shows like 24 & CSI you should try this as well!

I have watched the complete season 1 now I'm half way through season 2 can't stop watching it and I look forward to watching the next episode it's great having the boxset as I can't help watching episode after episode - it is very additive!

I highly recommend this show as it is a must-see! Whether you're a fan of sci-fi or not! If you enjoy intelligent shows then you must watch this now! I can't recommend it highly enough you won't regret it!!

a striking start to a cult tv show of great standard setting for the modern day tv show...one of THE BEST OF ITS KIND5
The X-files hit rock hard with this fantastic debuting series that...in my opinion...is much better fare than the likes of Star Trek.
definately one of my favourite television programmes and the best of its kind...a truely unique tv series with a great vision.
im sure Chris Carter was surprised to learn that this season was a huge hit and for it to be renewed for further seasons must have been a shock for 'im.
season one is in itself a very unique exploration into the paranormal and supernatural which is what makes it genuinely fantastic tv to watch.
it was certainly a hit in our household during its era through the 90's and in many ways this show upped the anti for future television shows.
