Catterick3
A comedy that begins brilliantly and is well sustained up to the shoot out in the garden centre, after which it becomes too plot heavy and the humour fizzles out. At its best when it is at its most surreal and most desolate (i.e. in the first half).

A Great Series ......"I know!"5
Reeves & Mortimer's careers spun alarming off track with "Randall & Hopkirk ..."; they delivered woefully inconsistent acting performances and the scipts were often woeful. (Long term fans blame the success of "Shooting Stars", it was a bright idea that turned into a turgid pantomime.)

While "Bang, Bang .." was their comeback series, it is this series that goes furthest to reestablishing their credibility. It is funny, weirder than a Britney Spears court appearance and even touching at certain moments. Matt Lipsey's direction is tight and he draws good performances from the whole cast.

From double entendres to physical comedy : all the facets of the series marry together excellently

It is extremely dark, but this is always an overlooked side of R&M's comedy. If I would have any criticism it would be completed absense of extras and the rather predictable "shock" ending.

Great fun, even George Clooney would approve.

Very patchy2
Either I watched a different Reeves & Mortimer series called 'Catterick', or the other reviewers here have very low comedy standards.

Only watch one episode at a time because you'll be aching too much from laughing? Are you serious?

Although there ARE laughs to be had with Catterick, one astute reviewer mentioned the main problem with the series: it was a series and not a one-off special. Catterick is just far too long and contains at least an hour and a half of pointless, unfunny and downright self-indulgent rubbish (Vic and Bob? Self-indulgent? Never!).

If they had taken out all the pap and left the genuinely good stuff then Vic and Bob would almost certainly have created a classic. As it stands, 'Catterick' is worth looking at mainly for curiousity's sake and to wonder what might have been.

A great opportunity wasted, sadly. A one-off about the adventures of Tom Fun. Now that could have some potential.
