Synopsis
The BBC takes viewers three million years into the future with this science-fiction spoof chronicling the intergalactic adventures of the only human to survive a radiation leak on the ship Red Dwarf. In Series 8 the crew are reinstated by the nanobots. Episodes include:
"Back in the Red - Part 1" - Not only have the Nanobots recreated Red Dwarf, they've also populated the ship with its original crew. This is extremely good news for Rimmer.
"Back in the Red - Part 2" - Rimmer is invited to dinner with the captain and to make the evening go with a swing douses himself with the 'sexual magnetism virus' making him irresistible to the female crew.
"Back in the Red - Part 3" - The Dwarfers face two years in the brig for crimes against the Space Corps. Realising their defence has more holes than Lister's underpants, they escape to prove their innocence.
"Cassandra" - Taking Holly's advice, Lister joins the 'Canaries' - a battle-hardened convict army trained to go on suicide missions, and not, as he'd thought, the prison choir!
"Krytie TV" - Kryten starts his own pirate TV station to entertain the prisoners.
"Pete - Part 1" - When Rimmer and Lister are forced to take on the guards in a basketall game they sabotage the opposition's half-time with 'Boing' - the virility enhancement drug.
"Pete - Part 2" - The Dwarfers discover birds are descended from inosaurs when they de-evolve a sparrow into a T-Rex.
"Only the Good" - Rimmer crosses into a mirror universe where he discovers another version of himself captaining the ship.

Red Dwarf VIII5
This is an improvement on Series 7 for sure. A return to the original way of filming (in front of a studio audience) makes a huge difference. Chloe Annette is much more settled in her role and the return of Rimmer as a main character, and the original Holly also contributed to the vast improvement in this series. Red Dwarf has now been reconstructed by nanobots and the crew are basically back where they started. All Lister, Kochanski, Kryten and Cat have to do is explain it all to the newly resurected crew.

The original concept of the show - the last human being in the universe being stranded in outer space with a hologram, a creature evolved from his pet cat, a mechanoid and a senile compter - is lost and that's why I still don't think it quite makes the standard of the first 6 series.

Having said that, there are some classic Red Dwarf scrapes and some brilliant one liners from everyone.

The reason for the rating I've given is because, yet again, there are tons of extras.

Worst Series Of Red Dwarf 1
Please dont watch this Red Dwarf series first. It is easily the weakest of the 8, and it's kind of baffling why they changed the Red Dwarf format. AGAIN.
Let's start with the humour. Cliched, predictable and basically unfunny. The humour in the past series was funny because it was built on the mannerisms of the 4 central characters - Lister, Cat, Kryten and Rimmer. In this series every supporting character (and there's quite a few of them, now that they resurrected the crew!), seems to throw an extra complexity to the comedy with their own personality, so the humour works on too many levels.
Next there's the plot. Up until this series Red Dwarf was about Dave Lister, the last human being alive. He had a creature who evolved from the ship's cat, a hologram and a mechanoid for company aboard Red Dwarf or Starbug. They had many misadventures that revolved around sci-fi concepts that any person can enjoy. In this series, the crew ressurrected by nanobots, Rimmer wasn't a Hologram, and the main cast were imprisoned in Red Dwarf. The CGI was totally unneccessary too. It was an absolute bloody joke. It just wasn't the Red Dwarf Format, losing all of it's principles, it's quality and focus on the proper Red Dwarf cast.
Then there is the ending. Yet again they went for a cliffhanger which will probably never be resolved.
Red Dwarf was right as it was before Series 8, even Series 7 has some good moments. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Series 1-7 are great, you won't be dissappointed. However, you will be with this one.

This is short and .... eh well, its short anyway. How can anyone fault Red Dwarf. From the first 2 mins to the last episode, its a master piece of comedy.
