Synopsis
All is not as it seems on Wisteria Lane, the pristinely manicured suburban setting of television's hottest prime-time soap. We learn this within the first few minutes of the DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES pilot episode, when seemingly sane and happy housewife Mary Alice Young removes a revolver from a drawer and shoots herself in the head. In the process of trying to make sense of her sudden and inexplicable suicide, Mary Alice's friends end up revealing just as many secrets about themselves and their neighbors as they do about her past. Narrated by the spirit of Mary Alice, each episode follows the ups and downs in the lives of bored trophy wife Gabrielle Solis (Eva Longoria), klutzy-yet-charming Susan Mayer (Teri Hatcher), frustrated stay-at-home-mom Lynette Scavo (Felicity Huffman), and anal-retentive homemaker Bree Van de Kamp (Marcia Cross). As love-struck Susan competes for the attention of new neighbor Mike Delfino (James Denton) with neighborhood seductress Edie Britt (Nicollette Sheridan), Gabrielle takes a liking to her hunky 17-year-old gardener. Meanwhile, Bree attempts to fix her life's problems through obsessive housecleaning, and Lynette struggles to control her children while at the same time keeping her sanity.

Picking up where the first left off, the show's second season finds each character in a state of turmoil. Having lost her husband, Bree uses white wine as a tool for coping with her conniving son and psychopath suitor. Meanwhile Gabrielle ponders whether or not to have a baby, Lynette shakes up her marital dynamics by going back to work, and Susan attempts to move on from Mike. The season also adds several new characters to the mix, including new Wisteria Lane resident Betty Applewhite (Alfre Woodard). And as everybody knows, new neighbors bring new mysteries. What, for example, are those strange sounds coming from Betty's basement?

AMAZING!!!5
This is truly one of the best programmes ever to be broadcast. Its storylines are smart, funny and often very touching. Each episode has a theme or message in it, which becomes more clear at the end of the eisode. Each episode is narrated by the deceased housewife Mary Alice Young, who keeps an eye on all the juicy goings-on of Wysteria Lane from up above. This set comes with two seasons, which I will review seperately.

Season 1
It all starts off when Mary Alice Young kills herself in episode one due to blackmail. Her neighbour Martha Huber has found out she bought a child and Mary Alice suspects she might also know that she killed the childs junkie mother when she came to get him, but this isn't revealed until the last episode of season one. Her husband hires a private detctive to find out who was blackmailing his wife, and discovers it was Martha Huber. He ends up killing her himself. We are also introduced to the five core characters, Gabrielle Solis, a rich model from New York with a husband who is never there, so she resorts to sleeping with the gardener; Lynette Scavo, a frustrtated mother with four bratty kids, whom she had to quit her job for in order to look after them; Susan Mayers, a quirky clumsy woman who has just been divorced but finds love in Mike DelFino, the plumber who is really sent to kill Deidre (The junkie's killer) who has been killed by the now-deceased Mary Alice; Bree Van de Kamp, a seemingly perfect mother and housewife whose husband wants a divorce and who ens up cheating on her; Edie Britt, the neighbourhood slut, whose house inadvertently gets burned down by Susan, which sparks their already on-going rivalry. Season one is full of surprises and is sure to keep you entertained!

Season 2
In this season, Bree gets engaged to George, who then kills himself when it is discovered that he killed Rex, which drives Bree to alcoholism and her son Andrew suing her; Gabrielle has a miscarriage and her and Carlos try to get a baby by any means necessary; Susan finds her father and ends up sleeping with Carl again, who is going out with Edie; Lynette goes back to work and Tom stays home with the kids, leading to much conflict, even more so when Tom starts working with Lynette and Lynette suspects Tom is cheating; Edie gets engaged to Carl, but ends up burning down Susan's house when she finds out he cheated with Susan. A new family, the Applewhites, come to Wysteria Lane, sparing all sorts of chaos, including a near death experience for Bree and Danielle! This season improves on season one in every way and is MUCH juicier.
