LET THE MEMORIES FLOOD BACK!
Would there ever be a time a for a spice reunion? its true its pretty much formulated pop that was of a certain time and place! but oh what a time!
When the fivesome hit the music scene in the summer of 96 they where so fresh and in your face.."wannabe" wasnt a life-changing song vocally or lyrically but brought a breath of fresh air to the music scene...not just here but round the world! from schoolgirls to pop fans..to the parents and the odd grandparent..we all lapped it up!
we dressed up as our favourite spice...learnt the dance routines..sang along! this album will bring back so many memories!
the girls crafted pure pop and gave some great tracks...and marketed themselves to perfection! we had dolls, writing paper..even crisps!
although a lot of the songs are throwaway...the harmonies and blending vocals of all the girls from the strongest (mel c) to the weakest(geri)! to the dancing..but they gave great energy both live and on record!
you have the immense wonderful ballads "2 become 1" and "viva forever" the pure pop of "stop" and " who do you think you are" the dance workout "spice up your life" the sentimental slush of "mama" "goodbye" and the new single "headlines" and the great rnb floorfiller "holler"
apart from "headlines" the only new track is voodoo" which has a bit more ummph! but still fails to capture the glory of the heyday!
still every song will remind you of a special time or a crazy time. sort of what were you doing when this was out...where were you when you first heard this!
maybe a whole new generation will discover the girls! but i doubt it will be like like the abba revival as the sound has aged!
still buy this album and enjoy it for the pop perfection that it was and the way it changed/shook up the music scene! i cant wait for the concerts!!! got me tickets...and you just know it will be a great party!
Simply one of the best pop groups EVER
Love them or hate them, the Spice Girls have made some of the best pop tunes of the last decade.
Every pop music fan should own this collection of killer tunes. They're really the ABBA of the 90's.
Essential.
A blast from the past
As a guy, I admitted it openly that the Spice Girls were awesome with five funky personalities to match their voices and their insane image and phrase "girl power!" My favourites were Emma and Mel B though Mel C's vocals are definitely the strongest.
Okay, so their songs aren't classics but you cannot deny that they changed the face of pop forever. They are the biggest British band since the Beatles, and no you All Saints or Westlife will never be as big around the globe. The sell out tour proves it.
Why should we care? We shouldn't, but in a way this nostalgic album makes us. There will be at least one track on here that will have touched you in one way or another.
Cheesy and in your face is the name of the game when you hear "Wannabe" but how can you deny that it wasn't catching? It was their biggest number 1. You have great ballards "2 become 1" and the powerful "Viva Forever". You have the emotionally charged "Goodbye" and the equally awesome "Mama".
Dance your feet away with "Spice Up Your Life" or feel the RNB factor in "Holler". "Too Much" their second Xmas number one or even "Say You'll be there", the song where Mel C showed off her vocal talents. And you can bounce away with "Who Do You Think You Are" or jump around to "Stop!"
There's the catchy "Move Over" from the Pspsi add and two new songs, including "Voodoo" which is really catchy.
So go on, give it a try and bring back those memories...you know you wanna!
