Essential electronica
Another essential early Black Dog album for Black Dog afficionados, or lovers of dance / electronic music. Their second album, TOTB is indicative of everything good about The Black Dog prior to their "split", say 96-97, where two band members left to form and concentrate on Plaid and carry on the true Black Dog mantle.
Full of deep, complex and subtle at times melody and great rhythms from laid back to heavier electronica, this album is great to chill out to, great to shove in the ipod when out for a walk and perfect for those post-club moments.
This album boasts two of my favourite Black Dog tracks, in fact probably two of my favourite tracks of all time in Cost II and Sharp Shooting on Saturn - so good and so emotive they could make me cry!
The only reason this gets four stars is due to the fact that of the Black Dog albums, the seminal Bytes, and the album after TOTB, Spanners, just edge it for consistency of quality tracks right throughout the albums.
Essential buying all the same.
Forgotten masterpiece
Bought this cd when it came out, and didn't rate it, along with their other 'meisterwork' Spanners. Stumbled across both albums recently in a box of long- forgotten cds, and I now cannot work out how I didn't rate both albums much more highly. By no means immediate, but this complex music is ultimately very rewarding and would appeal to anybody with the slightest interest in electronic listening music.
More incredible IDM from the masters...
Another wonderful IDM album from the original lineup...
Originally to be called 'Temple of Transparent Walls' but changed to to a legal dispute, this is a somewhat stripped down, but no less engaging release...
Essential...
