Vulnerable Things have carved out a strong reputation for themselves on the London scene, taking on not just the old-guard blues heads but also the fiercely competitive indie rock club circuit. Initially inspired by the Fat Possum/Black Keys blues renaissance, they've now evolved a strong sense of their own identity, demonstrated on this album of darkly intense tales.

About the Artist
Highly influenced by blues artists but approaching things with a songwriting sensibility, Vulnerable Things have created a sound that is all their own. With influences ranging from Tom Waits and Black Keys to Dr. John and Ray Charles, their eponymous first album on Bluesinlondon Records is a set of intense tales and personal songs that sit together perfectly. The passionate raw vocals and guitar of singer/songwriter GP Bennett are complimented by the laid back feel of guitarist Lewis Hodgkinson and drummer Ed Green. They form a tight unit experienced beyond their years, taking on the blues from a different angle while injecting a level of soul and feeling rarely achieved by contemporary artists.
Customer Reviews
Groove-heavy, hot-n-sticky blues-stomp!
A fantastically low-down and dirty debut from this bunch of British Blues upstarts. Let's be clear though, we're not talking tedious guitar spankery here or lame references to the Mississippi delta by blokes who've never been south of Norwich! The Vulnerables take on the form is entirely their own (think Black Keys meet Dr John!), and front man GP Bennett's strong song-writing skills and growly vocal style give this record a real depth and swampy darkness. On this evidence, they are destined for big things. My personal stand-out tracks are 'Something in the Water' and 'I Got the Pistols'.
Review From Blues Matters Mag. - Top Selling UK BLues Publication
If you like your Blues low. down and dirty, a la The Black Keys
and The White Stripes, then look no further than Vulnerable
Things for your next purchase, This home grown (they're British,
don't you know - Gawd bless 'em!) trio of singer/songwriter GP
Bennett, guitarist Lewis Hodgkinson and drummer Jimmi Ryan
have served up some raw, but tasty morsels on their debut
effort. GP's voice is straight out of the Tom Waits and
Howlin' Wolf school of singing and the other band members
complement him brilliantly.
His songwriting is incredibly strong, too, with plenty of intense
tales of love and regret. Standout tracksinclude 'Jack High' and
the simmering 'Down The Line', which hassome truly memorable
slide guitar lines.'Maybelline' has a nicepop feel and some
gorgeous harmonica by Rick Webb. There isn't a single weak
song on this eleven track CD. Not only are they a first class Blues
act, but they are one hell of an indie rock outfit, too.
