Manufacturer's Description
Mini turbine head: Designed by Dyson, the mini turbine head is ideal for removing pet hair and fibres from confined spaces such as upholstery, stairs and the car.
HEPA + Bactisafe: Root Cyclone technology captures microscopic particles, whilst the HEPA filter with Bactisafe screen traps and kills bacteria and mould on contact.
Telescope Reach: Quick release wand expands for instant cleaning so there are no awkward parts to assemble for high-reach jobs.
Root Cyclone Technology: A Dyson cyclone spins air at high speed. Dirt and dust are thrown out of the airflow and collected in the bin, not on filters or in bags. So unlike other machines, Dyson doesn't clog and lose suction, so it picks up more dirt.
Large debris channel: The additional front channel on the cleaner head means that larger dirt and debris are not 'snowploughed' across a smooth floor, so you can pick up larger pieces such as rice and nuts first time.
No running costs: The pre-motor filter removes particles down to 0.1 micron and is washable. The post-motor filter traps harmful carbon emissions from the motor. This filter never needs replacing.
Approved for allergy sufferers: DC14 Telescope Reach models have been approved by the British Allergy Foundation.
Instant stair cleaning: Extendable hose reaches to the top of the stairs.
Hygienic and quick to empty: No need to touch the dust - just push the trigger.
Car cleaning: For easier cleaning in confined areas the tools can be fitted directly to the end of the wand or the hose.
Motorised brushbar: All Dyson uprights have a motorised brushbar. This improves pick up on carpets by sweeping the dust and fibres trapped in the carpet pile into the constant Dyson airflow.
Anti-jam brush bar: To prevent belt breakage or gear damage, the brushbar disengages and makes a ratchet noise to warn when it is obstructed.
Auto carpet-height adjustment: Maintains constant contact with the floor to maximise dust pick-up.
Clear Bin: You can see how well the Dyson works, there are no bags to buy, you can always tell when it's full and it is easy to empty.
Dual handle: Lowered handle for easy carrying.
Edge cleaning whiskers: DC14's suction is channelled right to the edges of the cleaner head, unlike many uprights. Its specially-designed whiskers, angled to reach down between the skirting board and the floor, flick the dust from the edge into the airflow.

You Can't have it All
I've seen some of the reviews that criticise this cleaner - but I don't think any one cleaner will do it all. Trying to get an upright - great for carpets, floors and flat surfaces - to be great at stairs is just unrealistic. Get a cylinder Dyson for that - and then you will then be able to clean the car interior, the insides of cupboards, on the stairs and under the stairs - don't expect an upright to do everything. For everything else the Aninmal is great - powerful suction, easy to empty, heavy but stable, cleans up to edges pretty well, auto adjusts for different floor surfaces, picks up hairs easily and the long cable makes it easy to get around the house. (Tip - I once worked in an electrical shop - don't use a vacuum cleaner for picking up dog and cat food - it's fairly unpleasant to repair cleaners used for that!)
Pleased I ignored those who said don't buy!
A couple of people told me the Dyson was (a) expensive and (b) unreliable. Yes, it is expensive, but after seeing how much, how do I put this.... "stuff" that has come off my carpets, I'm completely won over. I always considered we had a clean and tidy home - now I can't wait to vacuum every room! The Dyson is out every day and every day I have to show my husband how much "stuff" has come off the ground!
The hose is stored inside a plastic tube so when you want to clean high up you have to pull the hose out of the tube. I can't seem to get the knack of returning the tube to the hose and I also wonder if eventually the tube might wear away at the hose.... if that makes any sense.
We have cats so the clip on motorised small cleaner head is fantastic. A bad point is that being an upright, and a big chunky one, you do have trouble getting under furniture. But I give it 5 out of 5 just because of the suction and the fact that it now looks as if we've got new carpets!
I've been using the Dyson for two weeks now, problem free, so hopefully stories of unreliability have been solved.
This Cleaner Really Sucks!
Bought as a replacement for a 'bagless' Hoover. This cleaner really goes to work on animal hairs, producing oodles of the stuff in the clear bin (which, by the way, is SO must easier to empty than the bin for the bagless hoover). When using the tools you can really feel (and see) the power of the suction.
I can see why some people have criticised the build quality - the styling is not as 'slick' as other makes, the build is more functional. However, it all seems pretty sturdy to me.
Stair cleaning is really easy with this model (compared to some of the older Dysons I have seen. Check it out on the Dyson website!) Also, the 'mini turbine head' is great on furniture.
Overall, I am totally 100% satisfied with my new Dyson!
