Discovery of 2006
Following a Guardian article, I fell in love with this band from the samples on their web site - captivated by the wonderful Girl Who Was Too Beautiful. When this album appeared, I rushed to buy it with great expectations. I was not disappointed!
It is a measure of its all-round excellence that I can't decide which track is the most magnificent. Girl...still probably edges it, but sometimes the wit of Green-Eyeliner, the nostalgia of Bonnie + Me, or the sadness of How Come You Don't Love Me No More? vie for that honour.
Truly a wonderful debut, which bears repeated plays (at least twice a day when I can). Glorious - please buy it.
Hot Puppies - Best Girl Band in Britain
Hey if you weren't at the album launch in Camden last night then you missed the team doing this live. There's the girls up front who not only rock your world but are easy enough on the eye and the boys at the back who back up with some competent accompanying. The song Terry is quite simply the best song ever written and I cant listen to it without busting a move and grinning quite freakishly. And the rest of their album is tip top too. The tunes are there. The look is there. And there's that instrument that makes a noise even though it isn't touched - ie the hand is just sort of move near it. Freakish and great. The Girl who was too beautiful and Green Eyeliner are other highlights. If you like music at all you'll get this band and have a great time if you listen.
Fantastic
Sound quite a bit like the long blondes. But I think they might be even better!! Green eyeliner is good, but is bettered on the album - a lot of times!! If you like your music off the pop beaten track with fantastic harmonies sung by someone who can actually sing then this is the album / band for you.
