Synopsis
After their thrilling exploits in Matthew Reilly's bestseller, "Seven Ancient Wonders", super-soldier Jack West and his loyal team of adventurers are back, and now they face an all-but impossible challenge. For a mysterious ceremony in an unknown location has triggered a catastrophic countdown that will climax in the destruction of all life on Earth. But there is one last hope. If Jack's team can find and rebuild a legendary ancient device known only as the "Machine", they might be able to ward off this coming Armageddon. The only clues to its location, however, are held within the fabled Six Sacred Stones, long lost in the fog of history. And so the hunt begins ...From Stonehenge in England, to the deserts of Egypt, to the spectacular Three Gorges region of China, "The Six Sacred Stones" will take you on a non-stop rollercoaster ride through ancient history, modern military hardware, and some of the fastest and most mind-blowing action you will ever read.

The six sacred stones - my 1st MR book
I picked this up as the blurb sounded good. I wasn't disappointed. As a couple of the other reviews say it is slighly comic book, but all in all a great entertaining read. I'm now going to go back and read his other books.
Not recomended
This is the first book I have read by Matthew Reilly and it will be the last. I note that some reviews mention that his earlier books were better than this one - but I don't want to risk it. I was attracted by the cover and the subject matter being which I thought was an adventure involving some archeology - Indy Jones style. I guess it does start that way but it becomes very far fetched and I began to skim read it to get to the end to at least give Mr Reilly the benefit of finding the end to the story. To give you one example of how poor I felt the story was there was a point where something needed to be done by a certain point in time. In true B picture style it was done within the last minute, this was something that was waiting to be done for 4,500 years and it completed at the last minute (just).
Here is where he upset me again - there is no end to the story! He has written a very long book, and cut it in half, you need to wait until the next book is published to find out what was really going on. I was reading this on holiday and at the end tossed the book across the room - as I headed this review - this book is Not Recomended
Save the trees!
What a pile of tripe, insultingly inept, incompetent and ..er...I can't think of another "i" word. There are so many other books for people with an IQ above their goldfish. Try Paul Sussman.
Please don't encourage Matthew Reilly to do any more, a waste of print and paper - Think of the lovely trees that died for this bilge !
