![]() | Want to Play? by P. J. Tracy
Buy new: £5.99 / Used from: £0.01 Hugely enjoyable; it manages to combine thrills and tension with humour all book through. The characters are so individual and believable that they raise this book well above average for me.

![]() | Bad Men by John Connolly
Buy used from: £0.01 This stand alone novel is my personal favourite of Connolly's. It is unsettling and explores the dark of both human minds and physical locations. If you can handle the supernatural element- read it.

![]() | Rebecca (Virago modern classics) by Daphne Du Maurier
Buy new: £4.99 / Used from: £1.48 My favourite 'classic', if you can ignore all the literary fuss around it, you will find a superb story with both gothic suspense and also a wry humour that some will recognise more than others.

![]() | Fatherland by Robert Harris
Buy new: £5.99 / Used from: £0.01 An alternative history gives this book it's background; I approached with caution but needn't have. A top class thriller, it can be quite bleak and desperate. Do not read if having a 'down' day!
|
![]() | Gallows Thief by Bernard Cornwell
Buy new: £4.89 / Used from: £0.01 A foray into history, this book is extraordinarily evocative of Regency London without shoving Mr Cornwell's fine research into your face. A thrilling read, but with a little more depth to it.
|
![]() | The Mammoth Book of Roman Whodunnits by Mike Ashley
Buy used from: £0.01 Despite the patronising title, this is stuffed with good stories. Probably best to dip in and out of as the Roman theme can become tiresome, there are some rewarding reads perfect for bed!
|
![]() | Borrowed Time by Robert Goddard
Buy new: £5.99 / Used from: £0.01 Goddard writes great stand alone mysteries; good for those times when you don't know what you fancy reading. This one stands out for me in the well written, very human obsessions of the narrator.
|
![]() | The Lost Army of Cambyses by Paul Sussman
Buy new: £5.99 / Used from: £0.98 A hugely enjoyable romp of an archeological adventure, this is a well written story that has a wonderful, and believable, detective at it's heart. Plus history.
|
![]() | The Geographer's Library by Jon Fasman
Buy used from: £0.01 This is a globe-trotting thriller with the ol' ancient conspiracy factor thrown in. But here the story leads the book and trots the globe, creating a wonderful, yet believable, romp!
|
![]() | The Moth Diaries by Rachel Klein
Buy new: £5.59 / Used from: £0.01 Sometimes you can never explain quite why you enjoyed a book; this is written from a teenage girl's perspective, with a sometimes frustrating story. But it resonated with me and I truly enjoyed it.
