Album Description
Barbara Dickson's new album, the aptly titled Full Circle, finds Barbara returning once again to her musical roots. It contains 11 moving and emotional tracks, from traditional Irish and English to Scottish folk to Barbara's own take on 17th-century songs such as Purcell's "When I Am Laid in Earth". Barbara Dickson, singer, actress, songwriter and presenter is perhaps best known for her Laurence Olivier Award-winning role in Willy Russell's Blood Brothers, the smash hit TV show Band Of Gold and for her biggest musical hits "Another Suitcase in another Hall" and "I know Him So Well". But Barbara's career began in the folk circuit. At the age of 17 she began singing in evening spots as a folk singer in local pubs and clubs, and it's to these humble beginnings that she now looks with Full Circle.
Customer Reviews
Back to basics
I've watched Barbara Dicksons career closely over the years and always managed to see beyond the naffness of the music that labelled her to the pure ethereal voice that should define her. And now, finally she really has come Full Circle, with a sincere collection which illustrates what we always knew. She is the owner of one of the greatest voices in recording history. In the hands of a fine producer, this collection has the emotional depth worthy of such a voice and deserves to be heard by a wider audience.
There's no need for vocal gymnastics or pulsing productions when the depth of knowledge and experience Dickson has, can carry ancient and beautiful ballads like these to a greater level than any contemporary singer today could attempt. Listen to "Singing Bird", "Garten Mothers Lullaby " or "The Eriskay Love Song" and you'll be convinced that Barbara Dickson deserves to be allowed freedom from the confines of the easy listening category and a new respect for what she was always capable of. Just buy it and see.
Stunning New Album
This new album from Barbara Dickson is a departure from her normal repertoire of show songs, love songs and collaborations with Elaine Paige, Benny Anderson and the like.
It's a haunting and beautiful collection of songs that she has always wanted to record.Beautifully produced, Barbara's voice has never sounded better. Pure and crystal clear she includes everything from Everly Bros. tunes to 18th century madrigals.
It's a stunning collection which will disappoint no one.
Faithless Love!
Buy this cd ..even if it's only for the track "Faithless Love". Barbara's voice now sounds richer and deeper than you remember from the countless compilations and this song in particular compliments her now even more beautiful voice perfectly. Some of the folkier tracks won't be to everyone's taste...but it's still an excellent recording...head and shoulders above many of the CDs in the charts right now.
