Customer Reviews

A mishmash, or possibly a hotchpotch4
For various reason's I can't give this less than four stars; I love Barbara's voice, there are some great songs on this collection, and the value for money is unbeatable. Having said that, it is a bit of a dog's breakfast. Whoever compiled it no doubt wanted to give us a sample of all of the various musical genres of which Ms Dickson is an undoubted mistress; not just show tunes, but Scottish folk songs, some soft rock, ballads, and a taste of her collection of Bob Dylan songs. A few of the recordings are live. No compilation will ever satisfy everyone perfectly. Why is this one here, you may ask, and why not that one? Still, this is a pretty good selection, but could have benefitted to my mind had it been put together in a more natural, flowing sequence. There were some tracks that were unfamiliar to me. Of these I particularly liked 'I Think It's Gonna Rain Today' and 'Skye Boat Song' (My mother used to sing this to me when I was little, which is reason enough to like a song, and Barbara's version is almost as good!) So if you want a generous compilation of Barbara Dickson's work without breaking the bank, this will do fine. If, however, you're a purist for whom expense is no object, then you would no doubt find a selection of her original albums more satisfying.
