Excellent road map for both California and Las Vegas4
I recently bought this road atlas in preparation for our holiday to LA and Las Vegas. There didn't appear to be much choice when I searched online and in shops for a good road atlas that included both California and parts of Nevada so I took a bit of a gamble on this one. I have to say, it really paid off. This road atlas is very well organised. It has four different levels of detail. You use the page finder map at the front which has an overview of the whole area covered by the atlas to locate your area of interest. This guides you to a 'highway map' which shows all major roads, then you can zoom in further to include more minor roads, and finally some areas have street maps. It fulfilled our every need on holiday. We drove over 500 miles, from Anaheim to Las Vegas then to Westlake Village to the North-West of LA. I had printed off google maps routing our journey, but didn't need them at all, other than to what route to take. The only down side for me (although this could be an advantage for others) was the index which comes in several different sections (street index, points of interest etc.) which made in hard at times to look up a road quickly. I thoroughly recommend this road atlas but make sure you study its layout and how to use it before you go. I really don't know how we would have got by without it!

Your guide to driving across California4
This is not the best atlas I've ever seen but it will do the trick for people who are simply looking for driving routes across California. The major city maps are a bit small and I had hoped for more detail. But in saying that it will serve the purpose for my trip and the price was very reasonable.

AVERAGE ROAD ATLAS FOR CALIFORNIA3
There isn't much choice so I will start off by saying it's worth having as a stand by and I wouldn't go anywhere without a local map. Having done LA-San Fran-Yosemite-Las Vegas, I found Google maps tons better. This was good on the odd occasion we missed a turn, because of the level of detail. However as a route planner I thought it was lousy, because the overview gives you nothing (too small and wishy washy colours)and the detail pages are too detailed to get an overall feel for each route. We also found one road on Google maps just not there in this atlas(Death Valley to Las Vegas)It was there because we drove it. In a remote area, such an ommission was quite worrying.
Another negative is the design. Unlike a UK atlas, the paper is very thin, and the covers are flimsy but all on a massive spiral binder. There is also a pile of tourist waffle at the front. So didn't find it all that user friendly. Overall OK (ish)
