Vic and the Strike Team are distraught over Lem's death. Shane is overcome with guilt and becomes reckless and suicidal. Kavanaugh refuses to let the case die and resorts to planting evidence and coercing witnesses to lie about the Strike Team, while Dutch and Claudette begin to suspect his integrity. Vic learns from Claudette that the Chief plans to force him into early retirement, and vows to wreak bloody vengeance on Lem's killer before losing his badge. Claudette learns that the Barn could be shut down if no improvements are made by the time quarterly crime statistics are released.

Synopsis
Detective Vic Mackey leads the elite Strike Team in the fictional L.A. district of Farmington, employing dubious but effective crime fighting methods as a tough, successful, but corrupt cop. Series six sees the Strike Team reacting to the loss of a colleague, Vic (Michael Chiklis) attempts to avoid being forced into early retirement, Claudette (C.C.H. Pounder) fears that the department will be shut down if improvements in its crime statistics are not made, and Det. John Kavanaugh (Forest Whitaker) coerces witnesses to lie about the Strike Team.

BETTER THAN ANY FILM OR SERIES EVER!!!5
Foret 24 or Lost or ANYTHING that's ever been on TV, video/DVD or in cinema. The Shield simply is the BEST THAT'S EVER BEEN FILMED. Also I have never seen a series maintain its high quality over six seasons. Although not as intense as season 5 - my personal favorite DESPITE BEING CUT - season 6 rocks. With Whitaker down Chiklis must face his worst enemy who is within the team. Season 6 starts out slowly, but strikes hard. A MUST BUY! I don't know whether the UK version is cut or not, but I bought it and watched it, and didn't care if it was cut. Everything you need to see is here.
Chiklis and ALL the other cast deliver striking performances, the writers are just fantastic and unlike other series you don't get unnecessary episodes just to fill up the total no. of a season. Ok , there's only 10 episodes, but every single one of them keeps the story going. Looking forward to season 7.

Don't worry about whether it's cut or not - it's excellent5
While the structure is a little odd and the ending definitely leaves you very eager for Season 7 this is a complete series in every sense that matters. The plot and character development is excellent as always and of course, the action is relentless. If you are a shield fan, or even think you could be, the only way you would be missing out would be to not buy this.

Exceptional TV making and exceptional entertainment 5
Please disregard the strangely obsessive comments about running time; this series is a treat not a cheat. Splitting what certainly feels like one long season into two (5 and 6) does lead to a slightly perplexing carry-over of the John Kavanaugh/IAD storyline and you might need your memory refreshing if you've allowed yourself a break between seasons. In terms of criticism, that's about it. Exceptional TV making and exceptional entertainment from beginning to end.

The Shield, The Sopranos, The Wire: all different, all outstanding, all hugely enjoyable. It is a little disturbing that serious and seriously violent crime should be the subject matter of such cracking entertainment, but there you are.
