Average customer review:Product Description
Deep in the Limousin countryside, Richard Wiles bought his dream home. But little did he expect to be living full time in the dilapidated farmhouse while struggling to finish the conversion during the insect plagues of summer and the harsh blizzards of winter. Watched by his bemused neighbours, Richard also pursues his more unusual dreams of raising llamas, hot-air ballooning and marathon running whilst trying to keep the roof over his head. Told with unfailing humour and optimism, this is a unique tale of overcoming the formidable challenges of building a home, and a life, in France.

Customer Reviews
Not quite as good as Bonne Courage
Firstly lets hope Amazon get around to publishing this review - the last five I have written on my purchases from Amazon seem to to have disappeared into a black hole somewhere, but of an insult to their customers who take the time to write reviews I think.
Anyway onto Bonne Chance - this is obviously the follow up to Bonne Courage and takes up the tale as Richard and his wife start to properly settle in their new French home. Unfortunately this one feels a bit like it has been written for the sake of it. It is a bit disjointed in parts and quite depressing in others _ I won't spoil the read by divulging on why and how things go for Richard but it is all a bit negative, with only the slight glimmer of hope right at the end (cue for another book me thinks).
The humour doesn't seem to carry through to this chapter in his life in France (given the events perhaps understandable), you can't help but think he wouldn't have been better off just leaving it at Bonne Courage and not bothering with this one.
Don't get me wrong it's OK but it certainly won't leave you wanting to up sticks and move to France like the first book in the series did.
Only just three stars I'd say.....
A good read.
I read this book before "Bon Courage". Having moved to The Charente region of France 5 years ago I am always interested in others' experiences. I thought it was open and honest and gave an insight into French life if you are prepared to integrate and avoid the "Little England" of the likes of Chalais and The Dordogne. I'll read the next one for certain
Author's comment
I wouldn't normally respond to "reviewers" on Amazon, but I'm irritated by the likes of Issie, who are prepared to diss a book without fair comment. People who set themselves up as reviewers have a responsibility to their readers, but Issie's poorly worded criticism is neither detailed nor specific. How is this remotely useful to anyone?
I'm happy to take criticism, so long as it's measured and well constructed. Otherwise, it's just malicious.
