Ultimate Risk
Not only will this book appeal to people who are specifically interested in the SAS and military affairs but, due to the amount of research obviously done by the author, and the ease with which he describes the events, will also appeal to anyone who wishes an insight into the way the British forces work, both in combat and against the back-drop of international events. The book opens with the catastrophic events of September 11th, and by following one of the most important campaigns that the SAS have carried out in recent years, shows the repercussions that such an act have not only on the British special forces in general but how this affects the lives of the individuals who serve in them.
Highly Recommended.
A Totally Forgetable book
This is the worst military book I have ever read. The constant swearing in the dialogue was tedious after the first couple of chapters. If you want an intelligent book about the British Military and the British Special Forces then read the books by Michael Asher or the excellent The Operators: Inside 14 Intelligence Company - The Army's Top Secret Elite by James Rennie. Lucky it was a Xmas present, I wouldn't have bought it
Old Hat
Mark Nicol is most certainly a chip of the old block (his dad). What started off as a bloody good read soon ended up not to unlike Bravo Two Zero. Mark I too was in the SAS; we did not swear everytime we opened our mouths. Those two jock tw*** you banged on about must have some how slipped through the selection process. You and nearly every other writer on SAS matters mentions the 'Battle of Mirbat' - it has been milked to death - its old hat. Your 'Red Caps' was a really great read. Drop the swearing so that I can give your new books to my nephew to read.
