Editorial Reviews
CD Description
The 18-track Asia best-of compilation, 2000's THE VERY BESTOF ASIA, expands the track listing of their earlier collection, 1990's shorter THEN AND NOW. Only the best tracks from Asia's years on Geffen are spotlighted, such as the pop/progwarhorses "Heat of the Moment", "Only Time Will Tell", "Don't Cry", "Go", "Voice of America", and "Heat Goes On".
Compared to Asia's other collections (1990's THEN AND NOW, 1999's ANTHOLOGY), THE VERY BEST OF ASIA is the best of the bunch, as it also features much clearer sonics than the earlier collections. For fans of prog-rock with pop leanings, THE VERY BEST OF ASIA is definitely recommended.

A - can't think of anything -A
All Asias albums are called A something A except this colection and the earlier 'Then and now' set. What's here to attract the fan ? Well there's a couple of B sides previously unavailable on cd; 'Ride Easy' flip of 'Only time will tell' and 'Lying to yourself' flip of 'The smile has left your eyes'. Both were superb tracks and should have made it on the respective albums 'Asia' and 'Alpha'. Otherwise there's the predictable set of tracks but the crime for me is the omission of 'Rock and roll dream', 'The last to know' and 'Countdown to zero'. Admittedly most fans will have these on the original albums but a best of set should include the best of and these IMHO are just that. Otherwise a great complilation.
Now for a similar set of the Payne years...
an excellent collection of progressive rock
Asia's Heat of the moment ,best of.. cd combines tracks from the four albums released during the Geoff Downes,John Wetton,Carl Palmer and Steve Howe era.(Four talented artists in their own right) But don't be put off by the the thought of another dreary progressive rock album, the styles on here are as diverse as chalk and cheese. "heat of the moment" with its powerful opening chords wants you to get up and play that air guitar while the ballad "the smile has left your eyes" grips hold of your heart with both hands. There also several more up-tempo tunes like "Don't cry","The heat goes on" and "Days like these" The styles do slightly mirror those of bands like "Yes" and "Journey" but that apart this is definately one to have in your collection
I am back in 1982!
I recently bought this compilation cd as I had the original first two albums on record and the third on cassette tape!
It's been many years since I've really listened to Asia and having heard them on a classic radio station recently, I thought I'd refresh my memory.
I've been playing the CD in my car and it brings memories of the early eighties flooding back....I'm 20 again and driving my Ford Capri with Asia in the cassette player...Great music and great times!
I may well now get the new Phoenix album too!
