2004's worst/most overrated/disappointing albums
Winning DaysWinning Days by The Vines
Buy new: £17.58 / Used from: £0.37
The first album was borderline average, this is just terrible. 2 semi-decent songs, the rest is unlistenable manure. Oh, and the lead singer is a complete moron.
Up All NightUp All Night by Razorlight
Buy used from: £0.18
Worst of the year, if not the last few years. Horrible amateur Strokes rip offs, with added Libertines type nonsense thrown in. Should have never been let near a recording studio.
Over the Counter CultureOver the Counter Culture by The Ordinary Boys
Buy new: £5.88 / Used from: £0.01
On first hearing one of the songs, I was encouraged. Upon hearing the full length, I was appalled. Idiotic lyrics, sub-standard Jam and Morrissey rip-offs. Terrible.
One Plus One Is OneOne Plus One Is One by Badly Drawn Boy
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £0.01
It's now amazing to think he won the Mercury prize. Another album of tuneless rubbish, he manages to ruin the only good songs by putting a child choir on them. Unfathomable.
Always Outnumbered Never OutgunnedAlways Outnumbered Never Outgunned by The Prodigy
Buy new: £6.38 / Used from: £1.58
The first two tracks are great. The rest is hopeless. It took seven years to do this? Obviously Howlett spent a lot of that time polishing his trumpet.
When It FallsWhen It Falls by Zero 7
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £2.40
Hey, let's produce an album exactly the same as our last! The money keeps rolling in! Music to inspire indifference and apathy. Oh, and it has copy control. Avoid like the plague.
Hopes and FearsHopes and Fears by Keane
Buy new: £3.98 / Used from: £0.31
I own this, but it's still a very overrated and disappointing album. Every single song has the same form, with few shines of the brilliance of Coldplay. Hopefully follow-up will be better.
Nightfreak & The Sons Of BeckerNightfreak & The Sons Of Becker by The Coral
Buy new: £7.78 / Used from: £0.80
Not that bad, but by no means a good album. Should have spent the time on creating a third length to rival their debut rather than ripping us off with this.
Scissor SistersScissor Sisters by Scissor Sisters
Buy used from: £0.22
Oh sweet jesus, save us from this pile of kitsch-camp Elton John inspired effulent.
Greatest HitsGreatest Hits by Goldie Lookin Chain
Buy new: £9.98 / Used from: £0.65
Witless, uninspired and vacuous. Go search for this on the Guardian website and read the review, it destroys it.
Mind Body and SoulMind Body and Soul by Joss Stone
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £0.01
Oh christ. Another manufactured inane insipid white woman who's trying to the new demographic: 30-40 year olds who listen to Radio 2. Awful.
Under My SkinUnder My Skin by Avril Lavigne
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £0.98
Oh Avril, you so crazy. She doesn't want to give it up to you, but she'll give us a second album somehow worse than her first. Middle of the road Alanis copying pap.
Greatest Hits: My PrerogativeGreatest Hits: My Prerogative by Britney Spears
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £1.28
A bad sign: she's on the cover in her underwear. Britney Spears has been with us for 5 or 6 years, and already has a greatest hits. It's her prerogative, and this is my prerogative: don't buy this.
AnastaciaAnastacia by Anastacia
Buy new: £4.88 / Used from: £0.01
Do I really need to comment on this? You can easily make up your own joke about this train-wreck of an album.
100 Million Bon Jovi Fans Can't Be Wrong [4CD + DVD]100 Million Bon Jovi Fans Can't Be Wrong [4CD + DVD] by Bon Jovi
Buy new: £23.98 / Used from: £17.99
Oh yes they can.
