Customer Reviews
Improved picture but...
There is no doubt that the component cable improves the picture. It's sharper, the contrast is more pronounced, the text is infinitely more readable...however, there is a down side.
Because the cable is so good, it highlights the weaknesses in the Wii. While static background images are far superior, moving parts of the game (your Mii in Wii Sports Tennis for example) are far more pixelated. It seems to be evident on some games more than others - MarioKart in particular seems more pixelated.
There is a definte trade off between the improved sharpness and resulting pixelation. For most, this will come down to personal preference.
The product itself is well built, a good length and is simple to connect. Just shop about for price - I saw one high street retailer charging £27.99 for the official cable!
I don't usually say this, but...
Don't bother with el cheapo cables from 3rd party manufacturers (unless they are certified). I bought a cheap brand and the image was worse than the old composite it replaced, so a lesson learned there I guess. I'd never had a problem with other consoles and cheap cables though...
So anyway, I bought the official one after returning the defective cable. Let's get this straight, you are not going to suddenly see amazingly detailed imagery from the Wii. It's still only 480p, but it's enough to really clean up most games (varies from game to game). Whether you really need such a cable could be debatable, but we needed to free up some inputs and the component was free, so...
I don't know why Amazon are asking "How much fun is this game?" and "How do you rate this game overall?", because it isn't a game. However, I'll rate "this game" 5 stars, for doing exactly what it should do without fuss or bother.
WII COMPONENT VIDEO CABLE
This upgrade, once set up, results in an instantly shaper picter, with better colours (both brightness and range/graduation) along with a much sharper image. The superior quality over scart is immediately apparent
