Customer Reviews

Amazing renditions of the hits and 2 two top new tunes!4
Finally the whole of the UK gets a chance to hear
The Body Acoustic, which was released in the US in Oct '05.
This is Cyndi's reinterpretation of some of her biggest hits(5 from her huge debut album 'She's So Unusual'), overlooked gems and 2 gorgeous new ballads Above the Clouds and I'll Be Your River.
The quality of this recording is fantastic and it very much has the feel of a live recording with masses of spontaneity.
Cyndi teams up with some of her musician friends including Sarah Mclachlan, Jeff Beck, Ani DiFranco and Shaggy to produce an album that breathes new life into some great songs and showcases Cyndi's extensive vocal range. Good to see some of Cyndi's overlooked yet fantastic songs included here e.g Fearless from the 'Sisters of Avalon' album and Shine and Water's Edge from the album 'SHINE'(the latter feat Sarah McLachlan)
A MUST purchase for anyone remotely interested in Cyndi and for music lovers in general. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is that i'd like to have seen Change of Heart from the True Colors album added, along with a couple of songs from A Night To Remember and Hat Full of Stars.
Other highlights include Time After Time with Sarah Mclachlan, All Through the Night with Shaggy and (my personal favourite)a rousing Money Changes Everything with Adam Lazzara
This album deserves to be HUGE. Buy it NOW!

Emotional Ride5
Cyndi Lauper pens most of her own tunes and she takes some of her best and rearranges them in somewhat pared down versions. Her 'less is more' approach works, mostly because it brings Lauper's great voice out to the forefront where it shines incredibly. A slower tempo on "Money Changes Everything" with Adam Lazzara, gives an entirely new feeling to the song. Its slightly more serious and less pop. Her 'duet' with Sarah McLachlan on "Time After Time" is emotionally satisfying with perfect pacing. "Sisters Of Avalon" is an emotional 'anthem-like' ride that almost seems like a fight for feminism. Lauper's timeless "True Colors" brings a lump to your throat with her earnest angst and honesty. And just when you're all emotionally spent, "Girls Just Want To Have Fun" springs upon you like a fuel injected slumber party. Its all good.

She's so Unusual!4
Cyndi Lauper, the underestimated 80s Pop-Princess with an edge, finally returns with a collection of acoustic versions of her hits. The "stripped" style of this album is slightly disconcerting at first, particularly if you remember these tracks the first time round. However, the simplicity of production actually makes the beauty of Cyndi's vocal and the accomplishment of the songwriting more apparent than it ever has been. Afterall, this is the woman that had vied for chart success with Madonna once upon a decade. She was the Christina Aguilera to Madonna's Britney. In the chart battle Ms Lauper ultimatly lost, but what 'The Body Acoustic' is testament to is that, unlike Madonna, this woman can actually write and sing! And boy can she sing!

As well as all the old favourites (with a difference) there are a couple of great new tracks and some brilliant guest vocals (Sarah Mclachlan, Ani Di Franco, Vivian Green, Shaggy, Jeff Beck, Adam Lazzara, Puffy Ami Yumi). This is a fab album from an amazing artist. Don't go away again!
