Listmania!
underrated albums in my collection that should be classics
On and OnOn and On by Jack Johnson
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £1.18
Just beautiful. I couldn't stop listening to this album when I bought it. If you like Ben Harper, then you'll love this. Chilled out, acoustic, someone take me to Hawaii! :)
Peace at LastPeace at Last by The Blue Nile
Buy new: £10.48 / Used from: £4.99
A Gem of a record. Superb songwriting. Also features some orchestration by Craig Armstrong should you like his stuff, check this out :)
Marvin the AlbumMarvin the Album by Frente!
Buy new: £14.19 / Used from: £5.48
The story goes like this... Boston, MA, killing time in a music shop. The album starts playing. 1st track blows me away, she's got such a potent voice. 2nd track, ohh!! Give me that album! :)
15 Minutes15 Minutes by Nik Kershaw
Buy used from: £6.76
I have to admit I didn't know a lot about Nik Kershaw before I bought this album... heard "Billy" on Guitarist magazine CD... never looked back. Buy it, this guy is a genius, his best EVER album! :)
Stealing FireStealing Fire by Bruce Cockburn
Buy new: £9.79 / Used from: £6.99
Working in a music store, not much tends to catch your attention immediately. Although from 1984 and it sounds it, this album hooked me from the word go. Superb! :)
No CoincidenceNo Coincidence by Jocasta
Buy used from: £2.59
These guys should have been huge! Heard 'Go' on late ITV programme back in 1996 I think, and thought it was a cracker! :)
Lovers RockLovers Rock by Sade
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £0.95
the comeback album that proved she still a star, her voice makes me shiver. What I love about it is the production values are no longer 80s and dated.. Shows up the wannabies of today :)
The Seduction of Claude DebussyThe Seduction of Claude Debussy by The Art of Noise
Buy used from: £17.99
Trevor Horn is a genius, if you read this Trevor, I'd love to work with you on a project like this. William Orbit insulted the crossover classical genre, this is the definitive opus :)
Domino ClubDomino Club by The Men They Couldn't Hang
I was lent this album in school by my history teacher, i didn't give it back for 2 months. Folky, pop/rock at its best. And if you ever see them live, say hi to them they're really nice guys! :)
AijuswanaseingAijuswanaseing
Buy used from: £1.66
This guy has a great voice, make no mistake. And he sings songs, something which gets lost in this genre all to easily. Top draw :)
Let Your Dim Light ShineLet Your Dim Light Shine by Soul Asylum
Buy new: £8.79 / Used from: £0.42
Its such a shame they followed this album up with one that really sucked. But I can't speak more highly of this one though. Grave Dancers Union too, that's great, but this one just exceeds it :)
RushRush
Buy used from: £3.29
Debut album for Canadian prog rockers Rush. Boy I wish I could sing as high as Geddy Lee. :)
ReplenishReplenish by Reef
Buy used from: £0.24
Having seen Reef on late night tv - "the beat" (bring it back!! gary crowley too!) in 1994, I knew they'd be big. Sadly they're best known for Place Your Hands. But should be worshipped for this :)
Fire GardenFire Garden by Steve Vai
Buy new: £3.78 / Used from: £1.94
Now firstly, Vai is God. Odd I realise to have a Vai album in a list that doesn't involve other axe heroes but there we go. 'Angel Food'- perhaps the most beautiful work for piano and guitar ever! :)
ClassicsClassics by Warrior Soul
Buy new: £24.49 / Used from: £4.99
Discovered on the other beacon of hope on late tv that should be brought back, Noisy Muthers! These guys always featured heavily but never seemed to break big style. Booo! :)
To Be FrankTo Be Frank by Nik Kershaw
Buy used from: £2.98
Ok, so two Kershaw albums. But he really is great songwriter and this album should be a classic. C'mon Nik, where's the follow up to this one?! :)
CornologyCornology by The Bonzo Dog Band
Buy new: £15.98 / Used from: £10.97
No-one has ever filled the gap left in the music industry by the Bonzo Dog Band. Where would we be without humour and music. Think Python on CD and your close! :)
LuxembourgLuxembourg by The Bluetones
Buy new: £12.69 / Used from: £0.01
Don't knock this album, it may have sold enough to go cardboard just about, but it's by far the best thing they've ever done. Forget the early material, this album is one great song after next. :)
11 by Simple Kid
Buy used from: £0.43
Yeh it's a newish release but it's not getting the exposure it deserves. One of the few albums that has caught my attention whilst at work. Lots of different influences, I love the track "Drugs" :)
Runaway HorsesRunaway Horses by Belinda Carlisle
Buy new: £6.98 / Used from: £2.49
I'm a sucker for a husky voice! Whilst most people are probably going to rub there eyes with disbelief that this is here, all I can say is it was good enough for George Harrison to play on! :)
PurePure by 3 Colours Red
Buy used from: £0.97
Change of pace, this album rocks! First saw these guys at Warwick Uni Union with my brother. Flawless :)
MutationsMutations by Beck
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £0.82
He's a funny one, Beck. You just can't second guess his direction. This album I'd say is probably the closest to the songwriter beck as there is released so far. Took me a while, but love it! :)
New Adventures in Hi-FiNew Adventures in Hi-Fi by R.E.M.
Buy new: £10.78 / Used from: £0.36
Forgotten album by most. Why is this not up there with automatic and out of time I will never know. Powerful record :)
New Miserable ExperienceNew Miserable Experience by Gin Blossoms
Buy used from: £0.89
Probably a classic in the states. Everyone should know this album anyway. Country/Folk/Pop crossover, a real American feel to it :)
TroublegumTroublegum by Therapy?
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £0.84
We end with Therapy? they're still touring and pretty much playing this album. best thing they ever did. kids who like rock, buy this album, it'll make all of your modern bands make sense! :)
Music for a living room (1983) [VINYL]Music for a living room (1983) [VINYL] by Gerald Masters
Buy used from: £1.99
I've got a picture of this album if amazon want it - cracking!
