Customer Reviews

Exceptional guide for beginner to expert...5
The author provides a foundation for learning metals. He spends time discussing metallurgy, crystallography, and plastics. His practical teaching includes: mold-making, casting, forging, etc. He spends time discussing safety and offers designs for different kinds of bench space. The drawback for UK readers is his resource list-only US suppliers are listed. This book is used by all the extended workshops for beginning jewellry in the US. The reference pages alone make this book an invaluable addition to a jeweller's library.

Thank god for books like this5
Just as the title says THANK GOD. I dont need to know reams and reams of blurb on the science of metal and how and why it works. I just needed to know how to make it bend to my will with the minimum of fuss and this book tells you that.
Clear easy to follow instructions accompanied by explanatory pictures. Tips on tool use and workspace setup. I just needed this to make finidngs and the odd pendant piece to go with my jewellery and this book has enabled me to do exactly that without pain.
This will take you further if you want it to but I have not needed to explore this myself yet!!!!!

Just obvious things2
One thing about Tim McCreight, he states the obvious so many times and again and again that the book just doesn't becomes anything else than a typical american book .. filled with too many words (because he's paid by the word) explaining the same thing over and over again.

No matter what book you buy, it's all the same. He also just renames the titles of his previous books to make it look like he wrote a new one, when he only puts in some few pages of new stuff together with mostly old stuff from previous books. Just look at his books about precious metal clay.

Sorry, but this book isn't that special but just average if you already have read some other books about this subject. Don't waste your money.
