A Real Gastronomic Journey
Delightful book - not only are you taken on a colourful journey to Southern Italy - with anecdotes and photographs - the recipes are wonderful and very easy to replicate. I like this book better than others about Sicilian cookery - because its written by several individuals from different backgrounds, each adding their own perspectives - likes and dislikes, with the writers making you feel as if you are there, sharing the experience. This book inspired me to seek-out authentic ingredients - including wonderful buccatini pasta (better than spaghetti) and brilliant olive oils which I now know how to use to best effect. So far I've tried 15 recipes and all have come-out restaurant quality - my favourites being the caponata (sweet & sour aubergine), the sardine pasta and the gnocchi (best recipe for ricotta dumplings I've found).
