Manufacturer's Description
Protect your garden habitat with the Big Cheese Cat repeller.

There are 9 million cats in the UK. The mammal society says cats kill around 275 million prey items a year, including 55 million birds. Voles and other small mammals make up much of the remainder.

The Sonic Cat Repeller will help protect your garden habitat and encourage wildlife and birds back into it. The Sonic Cat Repeller incorporates a sophisticated PIR (Passive Infra Red) detection system, which constantly monitors a fan shaped area of a 98 degrees arc up to a distance of 12 metres. The protected area is over 120sq. meters of unobstructed space. The Sonic Cat Repeller detects animals moving into this area and triggers a burst of continuously variable ultrasound, which sweeps a frequency range of 18,000Hz, 24,000 Hz to repel them. Simultaneously the LED indicator on the front of unit signals that it is now activated.

The Sonic Cat Repeller is powered by two 9V alkaline batteries. Battery power is conserved by the PIR detection system, which allows the unit to remain on stand-by between activation periods, therefore maximizing battery life.

The Push on/off Test Button on the face of the unit will drop the sonic frequency to an audible range. This enables you to check that the unit is functioning properly and to hear the swept frequency. The unit is also weather resistant.

Customer Reviews

Seems useful, but hasn't solved the problem fully yet.3
I installed this product 5 weeks ago, after checking with the manufacturer (STV Pest Control) whether the "Cat Repeller" could be expected to work against dogs and foxes. Frankly, I'm not an expert on animal poo, and didn't know what kind of animal was fouling my front garden, typically 5 times per week. They said it should work, and that the more expensive "Cat, Dog & Fox Repeller" simply has a higher power output to cover a larger area.

The instructions for the Cat Repeller clearly state that it may take up to 28 days to break the animals' habit in the case of persistent fouling, so bear that in mind if you read negative reviews where the reviewer seems to have installed the product only a few days before writing.

So what's my own experience? During the 5 weeks since installation I've seen only one cat hang around in my garden for any length of time, and that was on one occasion only. The rest have passed through quickly, at some distance from the device.

In fact, after two weeks I thought the fouling problem was completely solved; but, as one of my kids pointed out, my DOG-owning neighbours were away on holiday. The animal fouled my garden within 12 hours of the neighbours' return 10 days ago, but only once since then -- which is a welcome improvement, if it continues. Perhaps their dog is still learning and will eventually stop visiting altogether. Fingers crossed for now...

Don't buy this - it doesn't scare cats1
I set up this piece of rubbish in my back garden, near where the neighbours cats like to come and defecate. I went into the kitchen this morning and looked out to find a noxious little cat sitting on my path no more than one and a half metres from the machine, as though it was enjoying the sound. I went out and turned the garden hose on the little beast and then I pressed the test button to check that it was functioning. The red LED was on and it shrieked at me as it is supposed to do. However, when I pulled out the stake to reposition it nearer the point of entry for the cats I found I got cat faeces all over the soles of my shoes, so it had obviously done its business near the alleged cat scarer! The red LED was illuminated when I approached the machine as normal and when I pressed the test button it made a horrible noise, but I think cats like it! Don't waste your money on the piece of useless rubbish. Buy an air gun instead. I notice the's nowhere to leave feedback fior this seller, so obviously they know it's no good.

Didn't work1
I got this a couple of days ago, seems good in theory but it's had no effect- in fact a cat dumped right next to it over the weekend, I guess some cats have just got better hearing than others, i appear to live next door to a deaf one.
