At last! Simple AND Sustainable
Don't be put off thinking this is 'just another guide to simple living'. The Lilypad List is memorable - way above the many unsustainable books on the simplicity bandwagon. Marain McCain's voice is distinct, full of clarity and love for our planet. By using her own back garden and its pond of frogs as a microcosmic global analogy, she illustrates so deftlythe wonders, senses the dangers and outlines the protective mechanisms that prevent the 'herons' of destruction from closing in. It's pitched perfectly: now look closely at your own life, she says. Start small. Start by simplifying from within because, without that perspective, all else is superficial and the 'herons' of global greed will win. By using her own life as an example for the practical principles she advocates, McCain writes not sanctimoniously but frankly, with authority and humour, as a human being with foibles and weaknesses. This makes The Lilypad List suitable and highly credible for readers at any level who care for the survival of our home planet. McCain's poetic prose together with Iris Hill's wonderful illustrations make The Lilypad List an inspirational guide to walking lightly on the earth. If you really care, read it!
Simply Wonderful
The Lilypad List is a perfect read for anyone in transition or longing for a simpler life. The author invites readers to look inside, evaluate their unique circumstances and desires, and make lasting change. Marian VanEyk McCain leads by example and offers reflection and practical guidance, but don't expect a one-size-fits-all guide to simplicity. I'm often disturbed by books offering the "no more lattes, throw out half your stuff, all better" solution. As The Lilypad List points out, simplicity isn't that simple! But if you are considering real, conscious change from the inside out, read this book. It's like reading the travelog of an inner journey from a caring friend who has been there.
actually very good!
We are cautious and sceptical about such books, but the Lilypad really does make you think and evaluate if you really are interested. Readable, and mostly practical the concepts and metaphors are really understandable, it may well actually cause a shift in your thinking (!!!). We had a copy lent to us, but have now bought our own.
