Customer Reviews
High speed and high quality
This is one fast usb flash drive, the transfer rates are better than any I have used in the past; that coupled with the superb engineering madke this a superb drive. The ingenious sliding cover protect the connector when not in use and gives the drive a great look. The cover is quite wide and as such may not be the best device if your USB ports are tightly packed.
The included U3 software may be your cup of tea, but the first thing I did was remove it as I wanted a portable data storage device. U3 allows you to store and run applications directly from the device with no installs on the host computer; this works by creating making the host OS think a usb hub is attached with both a flash drive and a CD drive attached. The CD drive is infact an iso image that uses autorun to access the U3 applications.
Its Big
This device is huge in comparison to modern day USB pen drives; It has a snazzy action to get the actual connector out and another to get it back in again. When the connector is fully retracted it actual gets sealed in and covered which is nice. The only suprise was the size. The surface is subject to finger print markings but that's a minor, it also comes with a pouch which has a keyring attached to it, but the pouch just makes it seem even bigger;
My drive came up with 7.37GB showing as available, and two drives, (one is the launch pad for u3 and the other is the main storage) The main storage drive (H: in my case)had a preconfigured arrangement of folders; Documents at the highest level and then Music, Downloads, Pictures and Videos under that.
I copied approximately 3GB of data onto it in just over 3 minutes. Which is fairly good. (I have also setup U3 to encrypt the drive, not sure if this adds any overhead)
Other than the size I am happy with the build quality and performance.
almost great... but not so much
This device has some great pros and some glaring cons!
pros- fast, I liked the ratchet action for pushing out and retracting the usb connector, looks good
cons- size, size, size!!! It is so wide that when plugged in I cannot use my other usb port.
Also here is the big drawback... the only way to attach it to your keychain is to pack it in a fake leather pouch they provide that looks very weak. When doing so it is probably 4 times the size of a standard usb flash memory. Sure you could carry it in some other way, but then you should almost just use a portable hard drive!
