Customer Reviews
Beginning, from end to end
This is one of the best compilations of modern Scottish folk music I've come across. It is a survey from about 1979 to 2004, each of the three discs containing eleven tracks, and covering a different period. The first is "Classic Roots" with bands like Silly Wizard proclaiming The Queen of Argyll, and The Easy Club giving a new twist to Dirty Old Town. The second disc, "New Awakenings", introduces Capercaillie (with the gorgeous voice of Karen Matheson), side-by-side with the dazzling instrumentals of Blazin' Fiddles and the quieter harp backing of The Poozies, representing the eighties and nineties. The third disc, is "No Boundaries", where we pick up the cross-over sounds of bands such as Shooglenifty and Salsa Celtica. All in all, this is as fine a selection as you'll get, and what a bargain! Even if you're not a "Beginner", this set is worth getting: it might send you in a new (to you) direction.
