Customer Reviews

Excellent product5
Very easy to use. Of course, you have to realise that you shouldn't keep swapping the internal HD in and out of the enclosure :-) After trying several other external HD/enclosures, including the absolutely dreadful "My Book" 1 TB (no on/off switch, eSATA socket not working, gyroscopic torque when running due to the amount of spinning metal inside, even when power disconnected disk continues to spin for mins etc) I found this enclosure. I use it with SATA 750 GB internal HDs for the back up of very large quantities of data. Works perfectly with XP and Linux. Recently bought 4th enclosure. Excellent product. I am very happy to buy it !

Does the job well.4
I bought one of these to connect a Hitachi 1Tbyte drive to my VISTA PC for backing up the system.
I chose this one because it was cheap and the description said that it had no upper drive capacity limit, and supported USB2 and ESATA.
I fitted my drive in about 2 minutes, and had the drive connected to my PC and up and running in about 5.
This is a great general purpose case that's value for money. It supports power and data for both ESATA and IDE, and includes the power, data, external SATA and USB cables in the kit. Drive mounting screws are also included.
The drive mounting is secure, but I personally intend to put it on the desk and leave it there as there is a little play once the whole thing is assembled.
I'd agree with the other reviewers that the 2 case screws are a little soft, but to be honest if you're not heavy handed when tightening them up you'll be fine. The SATA data connection for the drive is very short, and has to be folded sideways to get it to fit in the case, but if you're planning on putting a drive in it and leaving it there that's not a problem.
If the screws were better, the SATA lead a little easier to fit into the case and the drive mounting a little more secure I'd give this 5 stars.
If I need another external case, I'll seriously consider getting another one of these.

Very versatile - very pleased5
Had a few old drives lying around, so thought I'd have a bash at knocking up an external drive for fun, and I have to say that I'm suitably impressed with the results. Sure, the assembly can be a little tricky, but nothing too demanding.
I've tried both SATA2 and IDE drives. Comes with the necessary internal IDE/SATA2/PSU cables. An external slide switch allows switching between USB or ESATA connection (USB & ESATA cables supplied).I did have to buy an ESATA backplate for the PC.
The external PSU (supplied) is a dual rail type (for SATA), so a standard 12V PSU won't fit the socket.
I've even used the caddy at work to extract data from a few ancient IDE drives.
Overall, I'm very pleased with the purchase, and would recommend it highly.
