Manufacturer's Description
A di Alessi products are the result of longstanding collaborations with the best international designers. Working from a desire to introduce the public at large to the quality and exclusivity of the finest contemporary design, they have created a line of "democratic" and accessible products for every home.
Flute: it is said that flowers must be one and a half times the height of the container being used, but in this design the classic proportion ratio cannot be applied. This vase looks good not only with poppies, but also with a 'swallowed' rose (where only the blossom emerges from the vase) or with a longer stemmed variety
It is formed by a narrow vial for the water and the flower. This vial is securely inserted into the support which is a larger vial complete with a base.
Raimondo Bianchi, a Milan florist, has placed his experience and talent at the disposition of Alessi for the functional analysis and exploration of the expressive combinations possible between the vase and the world of flowers: "The quest for colour has certainly been very important in this vase. It is a vase which can be used anywhere and I would buy it for its colour. If it were colourless, it would lose all of its meaning. The rule of thumb is that the flowers must be one and a half times the height of the container, but in this case this classic proportion does not function. In addition to an arrangement of poppies, the vase could also be used to choke a single rose (with only the bloom rising from the mouth of the vase) or a single long-stemmed rose could be placed in the vase, but with all of its leaves removed. It would even go very well on a table. I would use it in a group of 10 or 12 small vases in order to create more dynamic compositions. We have tried it with an opium poppy and with a Lisianthus. A tulip with soft lines would also go very well& the important thing is to use a flower with a single stem. In taking care of the flowers, it is important to remember to change the water every day."
Stefano Giovannoni started working for Alessi in 1989 with his fellow Florentine, Guido Venturini as the "King-Kong" partnership. From then on he has designed for the Alessi 2001 production, developing into one of the most admired designers in Italy. His playful expressions found a great empathy when Alessi stressed the technical envelope in quality plastic products. He's the designer of our famous Merdolino toilet brush, the fruit Mama and Mary Biscuit box. He has also created steel pans such as the Alessi "Mami" which show his talent in designing interesting products even when confronted with straight criteria presented in these different technical areas.
"A 'born again' designer par excellence, bearing a vague resemblance to a rumpled teddy bear, a man who looks like he might be anything except a much-acclaimed designer, Stefano conceals one of the most explosive talents I have ever had the good fortune to come across. He's not happy to be classified as 'one of the young', he feels he is destined for the designer hall of fame, and he wants to have his share of acclaim with 'masters'. He'll no doubt get there, even if he is a little grizzly and impatient at times. - Alberto Alessi, The Dream Factory
