Incredible quality and detail
Canon’s class leading 1pl FINE print engine delivers an astonishing resolution of 9600 x 2400 dpi and a spectacular 20 second 10 x 15cm (4 x 6”) borderless photo print, enabling superior photo-lab quality output at speed. Canon’s High Performance 5 Single Ink System includes two blacks - one for printing crisp laser sharp text, the other for photos to give strong saturated blacks – delivering exceptional quality. The single Ink System also means that, instead of replacing a multi-coloured cartridge and wasting unused ink, you only replace the colour ink tank that runs out, saving you money!

Save time, paper and be friendly to the environment
Print on both sides of the page without the hassle of turning the page manually using Built-In Auto Duplex Printing. This saves you time, money and paper – plus you’re helping the environment! To add to your options, 2-way paper feeding lets you load paper from the front cassette or rear tray, allowing use of both plain and photo paper at the same time. The printer will intelligently choose the right source for the printing task at hand. Manually switching from one tray to the other is also easy, while the self-operating output tray automatically opens when printing or copying so no more paper jams.
You’re not restricted to printing on paper either as the PIXMA iP4700 comes complete with a special tray so you can print directly onto DVDs and CDs. This is ideal for small businesses who archive data using CDs/DVDs or use them to promote their services to customers; while at home its perfect for personalising your photo or music collections.
Smart and simple interface
Don’t feel like using a computer? No problem. Connect via PictBridge to print directly from your digital camera, DV camcorder or camera phone. In addition you can print using the optional BU-30 wireless Bluetooth unit.

Automatic correction to make every print perfect
Built-in Auto Photo Fix II technology with Red-Eye Removal and Multi-zone Exposure Correction is perfect for your home photo lab as it automatically fixes your photos at the printer, giving you flawless results without the need for a computer.
Red-eye occurs when using a photographic flash very close to the camera lens (as with most compact cameras) in ambient low light. Based on Canon’s market-leading intelligent camera technology Auto Photo Fix II will remove any red eye from your pictures as well as fix the brightness of unexposed areas of the photo with Multi-zone Exposure Correction. For instance, it will automatically brighten faces that are backlit and under-exposed and ensure more accurate skin tones to help you produce gorgeous images.

Beautiful, long-lasting photos
You can keep your precious photos bright and vibrant with the Canon ChromaLife100+ system. This unique combination of enhanced FINE print head technology and genuine Canon Chromalife 100+ inks with selected Canon photo papers lets you create beautiful photos that will last up to 300 years when stored in an archival-quality photo album.
To achieve the exceptional 9600 x 2400 color dpi resolution, Canon Full-photolithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering (FINE) uses a patented print head with high precision nozzles, ejecting ink droplets as small as 1 picolitre in size (the smaller the ink drop the better quality the image).
Stylish, compact and tidy
Both the Power cable and USB port are recessed inside the compact, stylish printer body so you can push the machine right back against the wall – saving space and keeping everything neat and tidy.

And I almost didn't buy it
There are one or two negative reviews of the iP4600 printer here and I almost decided not to buy it.
I looked at the reasons for the negative reviews and saw they fell into two areas - installation time and ink.
The installation time is quite long, but you only install once and the process is clear and easy. Inks may seem expensive, but they are, from most manufacturers for their printers. I never use 3rd party inks because it is quality I want, not cheapness. I've tried 3rd party inks ages ago and they compromised the printer at the time, both mechanically, and qualitywise.
The quality of prints from this printer - stunning.
Twin paper feeds make life really easy. Small, neat, good looking printer
In short, Canon quality.
I'm so pleased I decided to buy it. An outstanding printer.
It arrived 24 hours after ordering it. Brilliant service too, from Amazon.
Excellent Quality
This is an example of you get what you pay for .... if you want a quality printer this is not the cheapest. However this does all that Canon claim for it the print quality is excellent and the printer itself is well built and does look the part. It was of course easy to set up and has a good array of software with it. The Canon Easy Web Print is quite is useful little addition although of course it has nothing to do with the printer quality as such. If you are after a combination of print/slide scanning and printing I can recommend the Canon combination of this printer and the Canon Scan 8800F. CanoScan 8800F Film Scanner. You will not be disappointed with the results as they are professional looking - which is important if you have gone to the trouble of scanning in old pictures you want the best output to do them justice. If you are not so worried about the final picture quality then you can buy a much cheaper printer than this. Incidentally I have not yet tried printing directly onto a DVD disc yet but that looks easy as it has a custom holder to line it all up - which when you have spent many frustrating hours trying to get perfectly aligned DVD/CD labels on to discs is a brilliant feature and worth the extra cost as well!
Very likeable
I've had this printer for a month now and I'm pleased with it. I've had the two previous models that it replaced and that covers a time period of four years. On both occasions I've had to change because of the failure of the nozzle unit blockage and the rather high price of these items. Talking quality of the photo production - absolutely top marks and the print speed of an A4 is quite acceptable. Hasten to add that I'm still using the carts that the printer came with but hopefully, there won't be any deterioration when using the cheaper compats. Haven't got used to the two paper pots being the other way round to the previous printer and I feel that this is a backward step. Let me explain. Paper is loaded into the top rear as is usual with most printers but with the IP4700, this is exclusively used for quality photo papers. This means that your photo paper will be 'hanging' around and exposed if you leave paper in it (which I do!).
The other paper feed is by a cassette drawer situated at the front bottom. This elaborate cassette houses the standard text A4 paper fully enclosed and hidden from view. I'm sure that most of us would be using a larger amount of ordinary paper than photo paper and thus the greater protection should be given to photographic stock as was the case with previous printers. Having said that, it really is the only slight dissapointment that I have and I'll get used to it !
Amazon supplied it at a great price. It was out of the box and up and running in less than twenty minutes. Congrats to both Canon and Amazon, a great pair.
