Great NAS Drive
After having a bad experience with the Maxtor Shared Storage II 500 GB I went with this drive.
The drive is substantially built, and has some great features - http and ftp access, as well as ssh access if you want to get to the guts of the device (it runs linux internally).
Documentation is not great but you can quickly work out what you need to do. It also has a disk spin-down feature as well. You can even change the fan speed to reduce noise.
Even if you are a novice the drive is easy to setup.
If you plan to use the drive in the bedroom be aware that there is very low fan noise and the blue lights at the front are quite bright in the depths of the night!
Good NAS Box
Setting up is very easy, has a built-in assistance for networking. And finally someone shipping an external hard drive with a useful bit of software, comes with NTI Shadow. I usually bin the standard software with other drives, but NTI is good. OEM version, but close too the full version. Attached my router easily and was all ready to go in about 10 mins, good purchase.
Much better than WD MyBook series
This is a much, much better product than the 500 gig MyBook World Edition, that I initially bought. The MyBook was incorrectly formatted, and wouldn't work properly in any way, whereas the Freecom drive worked perfectly straight out of the box.
The only reason it wasn't 5 stars was the fact that there is no printed manual. However - it is quite easy to set up.
