Very impressive printer
Having used a Black and White Laser at home for years I decided to get a colour machine to save the cost and bother of running ink jets.

This particular printer is excellent and suits me very well. It arrived well packed and was in working order. It was easy to set up and install. It produces very high quality black and white or colour pictures very fast and without fuss. You do have to be careful to specify any special paper that you may be using (eg photo or card) When I first tried photo paper, I forgot to do this, and picture was a total mess that jammed the machine! (Easy to unjam!) It also came with a small pack of different papers to show off its capabilities.

It is network enabled so I have connected mine to my home network so it can be used by anyone in the house without having to switch on a computer. The networking software was easy (though seemed to take ages) to install. Otherwise you can just plug it into a computer using a USB connector.

A couple of niggles The networking software does seem to have caused an increase in the time it takes my computer to recover from standby. Also the IEC mains lead supplied has a continental plug, which was supplied with an adaptor to UK 3 pin that did not fit the continental plug!

Overall I am well pleased that I now have a good quality Black White and colour printer that just works when I want to print something!

DOA and HP support quality mixed
When first plugged into the wall the printer made an awful wailing sound that continued for several minutes. Subsequent attempts to print produced sheets of paper covered in unfixed toner. HP support recognized the problem immediately - a broken blade inside the toner cartridge - and the support rep said this was a common failing. Because of this I returned the printer for a refund rather than risk this problem each time the toner cartridge needs replacing.

HP support were good on the first call, but the return procedure was unbelievably annoying. I had to repeatedly email and fax the receipt. These docs were marked for the attention of a specific person, but they never seemed to get them. HP Printer Support does not respond to their email at all, but do send automatic responses when the case is marked as closed in their system. The agent repeatedly left phone messages with no way to return the call.

Great low cost colour network printer
I've owned this printer for 6 months now and I'm really impressed. The printer worked fine straight out of the box installed and working within 10 minutes. I find the quality excellent, photo's look fine on regular paper.

I run this printer on my home network and print from both XP and vista machines with no compatibility problems. The printer is neat and tidy and fits nicely into my small home office.

One downside to this printer (like all colour laserjets) is the cost of replacement toner, I recommend you check before you buy!
