Customer Reviews

A low priority accessory3
I've only had this for a week or so and there was really only one reason to buy this accesory - to gain some stabilization at lower shutter speeds from holding the camera to your face when taking pictures.

The viewfinder is well built and fits very snugly into the flash shoe, but if you use the Lens Hood For Sigma DP-1 in conjunction with this viewfinder, the hood will partially obscure the view - this is common with smaller cameras though and perhaps unavoidable. Of course you can't use this with the Sigma EF-140 Electronic Flashgun For Sigma DP-1 either because the viewfinder fits in the flash shoe.

It is eye-wateringly expensive though and I'm not surprised that even camera shop owners baulk at the pricetag! Perhaps the sliding value of the pound is more responsible than Sigma for this though. Recommended buy? Only if you really want it. It's probably better to think about buying the flash, hood and wide-angled lens first.

So, three stars because of the price and the (inevitable?) incompatibility with other Sigma DP1 accessories.

The only option?!2
I love being able to frame a shot through a viewfinder rather than an LCD, and after seeing the price for a New Voigtlander 28mm Brightlines viewfinder - i felt the VF11 was the only "affordable" option.

CONS

The VF-11 has considerable lens distortion
The frame lines aren't always clear, and can leave you hunting for a visible edge to compose your shot (without glasses). With Glasses - depending on how far the spectacle lens is from your eye, the frame lines can be impossible to see.
The frame lines are only 85% coverage of the recorded image (this figure is from the specification included with the VF11)
Over Priced

PROS

It's a viewfinder
You won't scratch your glasses as the construction is plastic!

Overall - it's useable, but for the price it should be way better! Whether the Voigtlander has more to offer for the extra £80 - who knows?
