Imagine... controlling all your devices using only one remote - without a direct line of sight to the components! With the Harmony 895 Remote, you can still control your home entertainment while all those unsightly wires and components remain hidden behind cabinet doors or walls.

Customer Reviews

Best universal remote I've ever used!4
An excellent experience all round - from opening the quality packaging to simply connecting it to my PC via USB, to configuring it using the feature-packed and very intuitive software.

The first thing that happens once you've installed the software is it updates itself via the Internet, including downloading the latest firmware for the remote and the RF wireless extender and updating both devices. Great! Now you have confidence that you're working with the latest version of the app, as well as the product data used to configure your devices.

Next you add your device details. I have:

Atec AV-420W TV
Sky HD
Pioneer A-307R Amplifier
Xbox 360
Xbox
PS3
Nintendo Wii

I don't get complete control over all of these devices (no bluetooth support for PS3), but I do need to add them so I can set up activity profiles later on for doing things like switching the TV and Amp to the right inputs.

Once the devices have been added, I then set about creating the following activities:

Watch TV
Watch DVD
Play Xbox360
Play Xbox
Play PS3
Play Wii

Each one configures the remote so that you press one button and it will power on the appropriate device and set the correct inputs on the TV and Amp. The application loads reasonable profiles for the buttons etc matching my original remotes fairly closely. However, I did have to do some minor tweaks to get them exactly how I wanted.

Unlike the previous reviewer, I found the settings and options extremely detailed, allowing me to do everything I needed either through the static buttons or through the generic buttons alongside the display that can be configured for any function known to any of the original remotes.

I probably spent a good three hours setting it up and tweaking it, but it was a worth while process and not a painful one at all. It has an excellent learn funtion for button functions not already included in the application database. You can even configure the delay settings for each device in miliseconds.

The only reason I haven't given the remote five stars is the charging. Like so many Logitech devices it has a bit of a poor design in this area. It has a little 'bed' that you put the remote in to charge it, but it has nothing to hold it in place, and relies on you lying it down exactly right. Moving it even slightly causes the connection to break. This seems to be a fairly common theme on other reviews of the Harmony series of universal remotes.

All in all an excellent device that has now replaced all six of my original remotes. Very highly recommended.

Perfect5
Setting up is easy, just note the models numbers of your TV, DVD, Sky box etc and type them in when you run the set up. It then downloads all the functions to the remote (Via USB) and off you go. I can now switch on my TV with Sky and the Amp to watch a film or sport with one button. You can of course program it to switch on in any config you want without juggling Remotes. Also get 24hr 0800 (thats free!) telephone support in case you have any issues. Quality build/feel and looks great.

Very good and versatile remote4
Firstly it now does everything we need it to do. This includes all device control the original remotes covered plus sensible commands for each activity.

Purchased the 895 from Amazon as their price was as good as any and we have good experiences with them when things go wrong.

Initially set up the remote from the online database Logitech provide. This makes assumptions on what command each button will emit and what shows in the LCD display. After a short while we realised these were in appropriate for our needs and so reconfigured all the settings, including having to learn a few commands from each remote manually. How to do all of this is clear and works correctly, however I feel a bit more standardisation on the way the activities (watch Cable TV, watch DVD etc.) and devices (TV, Cable, DVD etc.) menus are arranged would speed up the learning process.

After about 2 hours the remote did roughly what we wanted, after about 2 days of adjusting every now and then it did 99% of what we wanted and after a further week it is now tweaked so we now do not need to pick up the original remotes at all. This includes controlling an amp and cable box in a separate room from the TV and with DVD players on the opposite side of the room. The most intensive remote use we do is dubbing DVDs, this includes erasing commercials as well as cropping the program to the correct start and end point, adding the correct title, labelling the DVD and finalising it, all this we do on the 895 as easily and a quickly as using the original remote.

The RF (Radio Frequency to the separate room) works perfectly. The IR (Infrared line of site) sometimes does not control an activity correctly and we have to use the help function to send the command again, not too big a deal.

So we now have the remote we expected when researching the product which was the primary concern. It looks very nice, the batteries last the day as long as you remember to place it back on the charging station before you go to bed.

I would recommend this to anyone who has the patience to configure what is a very versatile device.
