Manufacturer's Description
The Manfrotto MODOSTEADY is a unique innovative-designed, ergonomic, multifunction stabilisation system for lightweight camcorders.
A "three-in-one" product: a shoulder support - its bi-injected foot can be used as shoulder pod, so that the MODOSTEADY becomes an extension of the body. A camcorder counterbalancing stabilizer - the counterbalancing stabilizer needs to be set in order to find the proper counterbalance position and weight, considering the weight and the centre of gravity of the camcorder. When balanced it is a very useful camcoder stabilizer, which improves considerably the quality of the image when shot in movement. Table Tripod: folding the extension arm, the bi-injected handle can be opened and MODOSTEADY becomes a table tripod, useful also for still-pictures.
The Modosteady concept was invented by the design company Sapio and developed by Manfrotto.

Ready, Steady, GO!
My title is really trying to reflect the easy with which I, a camcorder hobbist, found this multi purpose steady-cam product almost flys out of the box and into action; Though you may be a little daunted when it first arrives folded up, being about the size of your fist making a 'thumbs up' and you are wondering how to assemble it- don't panic it just unfolds, albeit stiffly.
It is a little sensitive, especially if your camcorder is very light - my lightest, a Canon HF100 is 380gms, however it does adjust quickly, Just use the counterbalance knob for 'pitch' and the knurled knobs for 'horizon' centering - looking through your viewscreen is easy for getting the latter lined up . One or two practices and you will see how simple and well thought out it actually is
It does the steadycam function ok and also acts as a table tripod ( the handle splits to form a tripod foot). I did not buy it for it's other purpose but found this perhaps the best- it forms a shoulder stock steady-grip too!
When using it in steadycam mode, simply rotating the handle up 90' or tightening the locking nut, holds the camera firm for handling.
I would have given it 5 stars had the plastic camera plate base been better quality ( Manfrotto get your act together, this is adequate but is boardering on poor) and Why, Oh Why does it have a screw fitment that need a screwdriver to tighten it on & off the camera. The manual shows a coin being used, true a 5p will do the job but an integrated ring or improved thumb/finger friendly screw would be a BIG improvement but don't let this put you off.
IN A NUTSHELL....It is well thought out and folds very small.
Great fun- enjoy those fly throughs!

Good solid allround product.
A little sensitif to adjust, to repeat by each use.
