Fantastic in everyway except no off button
I had heard a lot about seagate before purchasing and the drive has lived up to what i have heard
runs smoothly, quietly and looks brilliant
however it does emit a lot of light and without an off switch the only way to turn off the lights is to take out the plug which can be a hassle
also there seems to be around 30gb missing even after taking into account for the 1024bits = 1MB standard
inst so much of a problem when you're considered 1.5TB but should be mentioned

Works well if . . .
Bought two of these to cope with vast amounts of data (I reprint old books which means scanning the books and storing the image files). Took one away on holiday and got very frustrated with it going to sleep in the midst of a mega-copy which required powering off and on again. Did a search and found a hint that installing Seagate Diagnostics might make a difference. Downloaded from the Seagate web-site and installed the .kext files (requires a restart). Haven't had the problem since (six weeks).

Elegant and quiet.
This external drive works straight from the box on Macintosh. It runs quietly, looks beautiful, and has a tiny footprint. I use it to store all my AIFF music files which are retrieved seamlessly via FireWire 800.

Why only three stars? Well, it isn't always recognized on start/re-start. I'm not sure why as this phenomenon doesn't seem to correlate with any other action, but without an on/off switch it has to be unplugged and replugged from the rear to initiate it which is a fiddle and detracts from its otherwise excellent performance. Additionally, capacity is actually nearer 1.3 TB. Mine also died after eight months usage! Fortunately, I had just obtained a TimeCapsule the week before and backed up the >500GB of music files I had painstakingly digitized from my CD collection. I now await a replacement (there's a 5 year Seagate warranty) so I can restore (hopefully!) and access my music library again.
