Manufacturer's Description
In today's world mobility has become a key factor. People who are on the road carry their whole office with them. Notebook, mobile phone, PDA, external hard drive. Imagine what can happen when you're late for a flight, running to the gate, and your external hard drive accidentally falls from your notebook case or out of your jacket pocket onto the floor - it breaks. Hundreds of hours of work, gigabytes of spreadsheets, documents, photos - all gone. Not any more. Freecom introduces the ToughDrive. The ideal external storage solution for people on the move. Fitted with an internal anti-shock frame and a unique soft silicon cover, it can withstand bumps and drops so your drive is still fully functional after it has dropped. The ToughDrive ensures you can still access your valuable files. It is the easiest way to add extra storage capacity to your computer.
Secure embedded encrypted 256 bit MD5 hardware password protection ensures your data is safe and cannot be accessed without password, even when the internal drive is taken out of its enclosure.
The ToughDrive uses a turbo USB 2.0 driver, for faster data transfer speeds (Windows only). It provides fast installation without rebooting, plus it is USB powered, so no power adapter is needed. Also, the USB cable is integrated, so no extra connection cables are needed, whatsoever.
It has a durable, soft silicone cover, which is ideal for mobile computing, plus its internal anti-shock mechanism insulates the hard drive from shock. The ToughDrive can withstand falling from 2 metres on a flat surface. In addition, its fanless design ensures no noise. Its high quality, slimline design measures only 140 x 80 x 19 mm ( 5.5 x 3.15 x 0.74 inch).
All Freecom devices meet the highest industry standards and the Toughdrive comes with a 2 year manufacturer's warranty and unlimited helpdesk support.

Top notch
Super drive! The drive is really well made and looks the part. The integrated cable is such a good idea and practical, why carry loads of wire around in your laptop bag! Better still you can fold the integrated cable away and just slip the drive in your pocket.
After reading loads of reviews on Freecom products it's clear to see that most reviews rave about the products and more importantly they have a helpful UK support team.
I have showed this drive to friend already who will be buying one; if you're in the market this drive really is a winner.
Great drive but read this if you want to store large files!
I bought this drive as a reasonably priced option for sending large AVI video files between the UK and the USA. It can handle knocks where other hard drives can not I read and it is light enough to keep the postage down.
When i do a video shoot i usually create 4 - 6 half hour video samples on 2 cameras so you are looking at 8 - 12 files at about 8 or 9 gig a piece. Now you might think that will be fine on this drive except that it is formatted in Fat format so does not recognise files above 4 gig. The freecom support phone line is dead and you can wait several days from what i can see for any response from the forum.
So if you buy this drive and you get this problem, remember this review and format your drive in NTSC (if your operating system allows you to view this format) because getting freecom to advise you will be like extracting teeth!
Nice, but not as quick as some drives...
Its a good drive, and as you'd expect (hopefully), you don't get 320Gb, you get 298Gb.
It feels nice and secure, and does have a good response time, however, it doesn't have as quick a transfer speed as my older WD Passport. The passport managed a copy speed of around 30mb/s, whereas this usually only manages 22-25mb/s.
Anyway, huge amounts of space, and tiny!.
Great drive, loads of space, (not particularly quick though.).
