Manufacturer's Description
The HD ready R8 series encompasses advanced LCD technology in an award winning elegant design.
HD Ready
HDTV allows you to experience television like never before with the widest range of colours and the clearest images. High Definition contains four or five times as many pixels making the image much clearer than standard definition.
Wide Colour Enhancer
This exclusive technology delivers more brilliant colours, even in bright areas of the picture where blues and greens are washed out on conventional screens. The system presents a wider colour gamut and four times as many colour gradations, showing you true colours; the fresh green of spring foliage, and the intense blue of the summer sky.
Movie Plus
Conventional LCD TVs are plagued by motion judder when showing fast moving action in movies and sporting events. The moving person or object looks shaky or blurred, like a series of still images, instead of a smooth moving picture. Samsung's exclusive Movie Plus completely eliminates this judder, presenting smooth action, no matter how fast it is going.
3 HDMI
Three High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) connections make your TV a multimedia centrepiece. Connect HD digital devices like disc players, game consoles, satellite dish boxes into the 2 rear connections and use the side-mounted input for cameras, camcorders and laptops. HDMI is the best performing interface for displaying an HD source on a HDTV. (23", 26" Models have 2 HDMI).
Game Mode
Samsung LCD TVs offer unparalleled picture quality that can be optimised for gaming at the touch of a button. It allows for H-sharpness and a faster response time in the games. In addition, its powerful surround sound effects produce a magical environ-ment of wonder that is filled with excitement and joy.
Fast Response Time
Exceptionally quick and sharp, with speed of up to 6ms (millisecond), users will be able to see the remarkable difference in the response time of Samsung LCD TVs. The LCD TV ensur-es that each image is just as good as the real thing.
Swivel Stand
The LCD TV's ingenious swivel stand affords consumers the ultimate flexibility in positioning the TV in their house. It allows for mobility and ergonomic comfort in your house.

Packed with Features!
As a big-LCD newbie, I was really bowled over by Samsung's 37 inch. It actually has a bit of class - sporting Samsung's trademark glossy black plastic surround, which contrasts really well with the matt black LCD screen when not in use. So, it certainly looks the part.
Setting up is almost embarassingly simple - you literally click OK to run the Auto-setup and away you go, basic setup questions, first pass for terrestrial channels, second pass for digital services and you're up and running. Owning several consoles, including the Wii (incidentally, if you hang your TV on the wall, you can stick the Wii sensor under the lip of the main screen surround and it looks fine) - the 'game mode' is great - it really cuts the gaudy overexposed look you sometimes get with LCD tvs.
With normal viewing, there are many picture options available, you really should spend some time setting up some custom views - the difference on such a big screen can be quite significant. I have to say that the picture is extremely clear (now I've repositioned the loft aerial a bit) and proprietary sound is great.
Connections are aplenty - HDMI x 3, RGB splits, AV (of course), twin scarts, and even a network slot (I can only assume for racking up several TVs for a composite picture) - you've also got some nifty audio outs for really simple dolby connections.
One thing I found truly amazing was the delivery service - you get a call when it's to be dispatched, and you can agree on the best morning or afternoon - I opted for a 7:30 am to 11:30 am slot and it turned up at 10. Amazon's tracker was bang on the nail - very, very impressive.
I've just hung mine on the wall. Now I feel smug. Pass the popcorn.
Excellent for Standard Definition
I wanted a big flat screen TV for watching analogue and freeview channels and I've not been disappointed so far.
I chose the Samsung after looking at many reviews and other screens. In the end it came down to either the 37" Panasonic plasma or the Samsung LCD. What put me off the Panasonic was the additional power consumed and the niggle of having to pay an extra £99 for the desk stand! From a sensible viewing distance I couldn't really tell much difference between the two sets except that the Panasonic was not so bright. Possibly if viewing sport was a real priority, then I may have chosen otherwise, but maybe not.
Both my old DVD player and freeview digital provide excellent pictures, but what surprised me is how well analogue signals are displayed (provided the signal strength is strong). Unfortunately in my area I can't get Channel 4 or ITV on digital so a good performance on the analogue channel is important.
We found the display a bit bright when it was first switched on, but having set it to 'movie' mode and cranked-down the contrast a bit, we have a great picture.
My only warning is that a 37" screen will look huge when you get it home and take some getting used to (at least in our 18' by 16' room). And whereas before the TV could stay on in the corner whilst we did other things without it being too intrusive, now it is impossible to ignore it, so we tend to turn it off when there isn't something we want to watch- probably a good thing!
Overall, if you have a strong analogue signal and/or good freeview, then I have no hesitation in recommending this TV for standard definition viewing.

Excellent bit of kit (after 2 months worth of research on the net and analysis sites) everthing you need for future with HDMI conections ,easy set up,great picture with 3 different modes and a custom mode, looks good at home in on/off mode, picture very sharp coupled with 3 year warranty all for £549!!! one thing - DO NOT use the polish cloth you get with it as it scratches the plastic /screen (from home cinema & which mags)
