Dont seem to last
This is my second halogen oven and both have lasted just about 11 months each time. Yes they cook fine and theyre quick. Cleaning is ok to some extent but I find that the lid is really hard to keep clean and the shiny chrome cover plate over the halogen bulb goes off colour very quickly. In one reveiw someone said about rust which I think is a major problem. I am tempted to buy another but will think carefully first before I do. I think if you use it almost every day then they just burn out
ESSENTIAL ITEM OF KITCHEN EQUIPMENT
This really is a super piece of kit, it is so versatile and cooks just about everything QUICKLY, great for defrosting as well. Both fish and meat are cooked to perfection and of course you can see the progress of your cooking without having to open doors. The racks provided mean that unhealthy grease simply drains off. I really wouldn't be without it and hardly ever use the cooker any longer.
CRITICISMS: Although it is easy to clean by hand, the self-cleaning function is only partially effective and does leave gunge behind. The one item that does take a long time is jacket potatoes which do seem to take an eternity. Although the Halogen Oven is ideal for a family of two, a family of four plus would need a second one. An extension ring for cooking larger poultry would be useful as well.
Although I am quite delighted with ours, I do know of several cases where the oven has expired quite quickly and had to be replaced. I suspect longevity could be in doubt. And what happens if you have the misfortune to break the bowl, how easy will it be to get a replacement and where from?
The target price appears to be £59 however it does pay to shop around, Coopers for example charge £39. For those customers who live in the Channel Islands which does not have VAT (AMAZON always deducts the VAT) don't go to JML direct, they seem incapable or unwilling to deduct VAT and don't deserve to be encouraged. However, the various presentations of the Halogen Oven on the various shopping channels is pretty accurate and I would recommend it whole heartedly.
Design fault??
We purchased 3 of these ovens, One for us, one for our daughter and one for my mum.
ours cooked loverly, no problems with the food and easy to clean afterwards, but 10 months later its broken, the heating element had blown by the looks of it, I checked under the heating unit its self and it is totally rusted away, and I mean rusted so bad its falling apart, I have contacted JML direct and they are very polite and helpful and have offered to send a new one to us, but I am wondering if this is a serious design fault????
