Synopsis
The Aga is much more than an oven: it's an icon. It's a statement. It's a way of life. Agas have never been more popular, and the queen of Aga cookery is undoubtably Amy Willcock. Here is her definitive Aga Bible, with 300 classic, timeless recipes and bags of advice and tips for Aga owners. Here are all the essential recipes that every Aga owner needs to know - from how to cook a full English breakfast on an Aga, making soups, cooking fish and roasting meats, through to baking pies, cakes and breads. The delicious family food includes Beef stroganoff, Steak, mushroom and horseradish pudding, and Bacon and egg pie, and there are stunning dinner-party recipes such as Rillettes of duck with toasted brioche, Chicken in Marsala with oranges and shallots and Parmigiano, thyme and rosemary risotto. Amy also tempts the tastebuds with a delectable selection of desserts and cakes, including Raspberry souffles, Chocolate pecan tart and Lemon meringue cake. And there are 30 new and exclusive recipes, such as Moules marinieres, Crab and coconut soup and Apple and onion tart. All the recipes feature conventional cooking instructions, so even non-Aga owners can enjoy Amy's tasty dishes.

Customer Reviews

A best of `Amy Wilcock AGA Cooking' - `a compilation of all my favourite recipes'...with 30 completely new ones.4
I do wish I had read the first review below before investing in this book! Even at Amazon's great price, it is an expensive purchase if you already own some of Amy's books, despite the handful of `new` recipes, but the author does make this quite clear in her introduction, copied here for the benefit of other readers:-

`It has been five years since my first AGA book, `AGA Cooking' was published. The first book was a huge learning curve and its publication was one of the nicest things that has ever happened to me.
It was the first book of its kind to reflect the cooking mood of the nation and translate it into `AGA-speak'.

I like to think of this new book as being a best of `Amy Wilcock AGA Cooking' - a compilation of all my favourite recipes, the dishes that are always requested at my workshops and demonstrations, and a good smattering of brand-new recipes, plus all the techniques and tips you will ever need.

It doesn't matter how many cookery books you buy and read, I believe the best way of learning and expanding your cookery skills is to cook, cook, cook!
Happy AGA cooking!'

Enticing cover encloses 304 high quality, shiny pages split over 14 main chapters, sandwiched between the introduction and a concise index:-

AGA Basics
Breakfasts
Soups
Starters
Poultry& Game
Meat
Fish & Seafood
Vegetarian
Accompaniments
Stuffed Peaches
Desserts
Cakes
Biscuits
Breads
Preserves

Colour photography but not of all the dishes, although with over 300 recipes, this would be difficult to do and keep the weight of this already relatively chunky tome down!

Each recipe is well laid out with clear ingredients list and method, with useful notes re `conventional cooking' modification.

A little taste of the recipes within:-

AGA Kippers
AGA French Toast
Roasted Vine Tomato Soup
Crab Soufflé
The Ultimate Roasted Rib of Beef
Traditional Cornish Pasties
Shepherd's Pie
Old Fashioned Meatloaf
Toad in the Hole
Smoked Fish Pie

Savoury Egg Meringues
Fettuccine Alfredo
Roast Potatoes
Christmas Pudding Snowdrift
Lemon Verbena Baked Custard

Mincemeat

Compendium of past books3
It is not made clear in the synopsis that this book is a compendium of Amy's other books made into one.The synopsis does clarify that there are thirty new recipes, but if you own the other books then you have essentially got the content of this book already.
