Flinn is at school looking in the art cupboard for some coloured pens to finish off his dinosaur drawing when he stumbles upon Captain Stubble, a real live Pirate Captain! He tells Flinn that his ship, the Acorn, has been stolen and that he needs Flinn to help him rescue it back. Stubble makes Flinn the captain and they sail away on an old pirate ship...they finally find the Acorn but, to their horror, realise it's been stolen by PIRATE DINOSAURS! Captain Flinn and his crew attack the dinosaurs and, after much fighting, seize control of the ship once more. Flinn and his friends then sail back to the harbour clambering through the boatshed door and back into the art cupboard without the teacher even noticing they've been gone!

Editorial Reviews
Review
The creators of Captain Flinn and the Pirate Dinosaurs (2005) again chuck lots of promising elements together - evidently in hopes that they'll assemble themselves into an exciting, or at least coherent, yarn. They don't. Shortly after pausing in awe before the huge skeleton of a Giganotosaurus on a class trip to the museum, Flinn and friends fall through a wardrobe - er, closet and find themselves aboard a ship heading for Bag O' Bones Island, where they fight scaly pirates to recover a treasure stolen from the aforementioned museum. Enter Giganotosaurus at the climax, as a towering pirate who hardly gets to roar before he's reduced to jelly by the sight of a tiny spider. Ayto illustrates the sketchy plot with frenzied cartoon collages featuring lots of big teeth, jumbled action and a ship that looks like a fugitive from a Monty Python animation. Young readers will give this a perfunctory once-over at best; set them instead on a course for the more seaworthy likes of Deb Lund's Dinosailors (2003), illustrated by Howard Fine. Fantastic... a winning combination of pirates and dinosaurs.

A rollicking adventure.

Truly fabulous book for 'boy boys'
If your little boy is as boyish as they come - he will absolutely adore this book.
The combination of pirate and dinosaur - the two favourites for many little boys - is inspirational. My 4 year old wont put this book down. If your boy is obsessed by T-Rex's and pirates then this book will be an incredible hit. Its not often I come across books that are so atune to my children's interests and imagination. An absolute must have - I just wish I had got it when he was 3 so he could have enjoyed it all the sooner!
Great Adventure That Ticks All The Boxes
While there are a never ending stream of 'pink' stories for girls, it can sometimes be hard to find exciting books for boys that deliver everything they want without boring their parents to tears (see Thomas the Tank Engine). Here we have the perfect mix for all concerned.
Schoolboy Flinn and his mates discover a secret door into a magical world of pirates, treason on the high seas and pirates who are also bloodthirsty dinosaurs. The quality of the illustrations is high, bright, busy and yet well defined. It also has plenty of interest points for parents and kids to spot and talk about. The story is fast and furious, letting the kids imaginations run wild.
A great book, which my girls liked just as much as my boy. Highly recommended.
Captain Flinn and the Pirate Dinaosaurs
I ordered this book based upon the reviews posted, and wasn't disappointed..
My pirate obsessed 3 year old son, asks for this book every night. The story is great and the illustrations are fantastic, they seem to capture his imagination. We spend a lot of time looking at all of the detail in the wonderful pictures. I highly recommend this book!
