Synopsis
Wouldn't it be great if you could go into property developing knowing all the pitfalls in advance and avoid the common errors made by most first time property developers. Gary's television work continually proves to him how little the wider public actually know about his trade - despite its high profile - and he is fed up of seeing solicitors, agents and builders pull the wool over people's eyes. This passionate and opinionated guide will help first timers avoid costly mistakes by arming them with insider advice and knowledge. Turning the property sections in the bookshops upside down, "Make a Million From Property" is upfront, candid, jargon-free and utterly devoid of bullshit - packed with the concrete facts from which readers can learn exactly how the best deals are brokered and broken.

From the Back Cover
`Apart from winning the lottery there are very few ways of creating huge wealth quite like property...but a word of caution, you need to know exactly what your doing because its not for the faint hearted!'

In this passionate and opinionated book property guru and television presenter Gary McCausland presents an insider's guide to property development and shows how you can make a million from bricks and mortar whatever the housing market conditions. Packed with concrete facts and examples from his own successful business McCausland explains exactly how the best deals are brokered and broken - arming readers with all the essential information they need to make it in the cut and thrust world of property development.

About the Author
Gary was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland and grew up in a town called Dungannon throughout the troubles in the 70's and 80's. He is the eldest of seven siblings, two girls & five boys, and puts his success down to his good upbringing. `Times were difficult, but my family made sure we had strong values'.

It was during these days that the first dreams of being a property developer were born, as he recognised opportunities of building, renovating & essentially improving his environment. He always wanted to work in property and chose the corporate route to lay the foundations for this ambition. He obtained an honours degree in Estate Management and a Post Graduate Diploma in Accountancy from the University of Ulster and now is a Chartered Surveyor.

He worked as a Management Accountant for a year in 1992 and then as a Property Manager for Cable and Wireless, moving to London to take on a senior UK Management role (1993 - 1998). He eventually moved to US telecoms giant MCI and became their International Estate's Manager (1998 - 2000) before he took his final step to another American company as their European Sales Director (2000 - 2001).

After around ten years on the corporate ladder, buying & selling literally hundreds of properties across the world, it was time to fulfill his own ambition; Gary started a property development company, The Richland Group, in 2002. He established himself as a successful property developer within a relatively short period of time and new developments are on-going, and the company's profile and success continues to grow, achieving a turnover of several million per annum.

Whilst growing his property company Gary, along with his brother, founded and opened 'The Kingly Club' in Soho, London. An exclusive members bar which has been voted 'Bar of the Year 2004, 2005 and 2006' at the London Bar & Club awards hosted and televised at the Park Lane Hilton Hotel.

Approached by five in 2004, Gary is presenter on five's flagship program 'How to be a Property Developer'. Using a fly-on-the-wall approach, Gary observes two teams of hopefuls who try to accumulate as much money as possible by buying and selling property. Each team has an initial advance of £300,000 and a time limit of a year. He gives them advice, watches how they use it and in the last programme informs them of their most clever and not so clever moves! The shows popularity has led to Gary filming a second and third series. He has also just recently completed two new series 'Property Developing Abroad' and 'The Anne Maurice Project' both to be shown Prime time five.

Customer Reviews

Now is the time...5
There's an old saying: always buy when there's there's blood on the streets. The theory is that if you go into an area after there's been a war or a disaster, you can pick up huge bargains. Anyone who invested in Croatia in the mid 90s will vouch for how effective this tactic csn be. So this book by Gary McCausland is a timely reminder that there is still plenty of opportunity to make money from the UK property market. The rapid decline in prices will lead to nervousness and panic selling, or at least to the presence of many juicy bargains for the astute investor with the skill to pick and choose the right flats/houses/land. This book gives a pretty comprehensive run down of the skills you'll need to do well, and - more importantly - the expensive mistakes to avoid. I recommend it.

An Essential No Nonsense Guide - highly recommended!5
I picked this book up at the airport and was drawn in immediately. Really down to earth and inspirational. Even with the present day 'credit crunch' Gary has packed it full of practical no nonsense steps to get up the property ladder. Excellent!

At last, a useful book telling you how to really do it...5
An honest account of how to make money out of property. Using his own personal exerience - the good times and bad, Gary shares the secrets to success in property whatever the econmic climate. I would recommend this book to any would-be inspired property developer.
