Pseudoscientific wishful thinking!
If you're looking for a book to help you achieve anything in life, don't get this. Despite a couple of good points (such as not to be selfish in life - do you really need a book to tell you this??), the basic idea of this work, set forth in twenty-four "lessons", is to simply think good thoughts and imagine all the things you want most in life. Apparently, the author assures us, these thoughts will "objectify" and bring us those dreams in the real world via the "Law of Attraction", which the author alleges has been scientifically proved. He also claims, rather arrogantly, that even bodily diseases and ailments can be healed by "correct" thinking. Needless to say, this is all utter nonsense. Of course we should all be optimistic, but that alone will not make your dreams come true!

Instead of what is in this book, here is some basic but actually much more useful advice for everyone: if you're feeling lonely, find a wondrous person to love. If you're looking for success in a career, work hard to achieve it. If you're ill, see a doctor and live as healthily as you can. If you want to be wealthy, you should start by saving your money and not buying this book!

This book was so far ahead of it's time.

Is the process of manifestation is your quest?

If so, yes, the wording can sound old-fashioned but I believe that each book written by a knowledgeable author can still hold the imprint of that original wisdom. I found the book to be still alive. A valuable resource.

The Source
Haanel is the source of the ideas contained in other books that discuss the law of attraction, especially "The Secret," which owes great debt to this book. In fact, "The Master Key System" presents the ideas of the power of our mind in the most original format. I would say it gives the most powerful presentation. It's amazing that Haanel presented these ideas in the 1930s - he was way ahead of his time!

While self-mastery is highly important, I also feel that empathy and compassion have an important place in human relations. Haanel hints at this when he equates law of attraction with love, though he really doesn't explore its full spiritual dimension. I personally wanted more of a spiritual dimension covered in the book. Still what it offers is valuable for personal empowerment.

Oddly enough I've been reading "Nexus: A Neo Novel" by two wonderful Canadian authors. It's an amazing debut novel! At first it's disconcerting - the book opens with a suicide scene - but as you go into the book you realize many psychological and spiritual insights as you relate the experiences of the characters in the book to your own.
